From what I understand, even the fastest refresh LCD's are still not as good as CRT for first person shooter games, since CRT can easily do 100Hz refresh to match 100fps. But when I look at Newegg, I barely see any CRT's.. Whats the solution to my problem?

Thanks,

What can the human eye register? mid 30's perhaps? 60fps is plenty, don't destroy the budget for overkill!

At least 60. Most people can still tell the difference between 80 and 100. A friend of mine can tell the difference between 100 and 120, but I think that is rare.

Wise words indeed.

dont just go by ms. its really more about the quality of the monitor. ive seen monitors with 2ms ghost and ones with 16ms look amazing. id recommend a samsung. i just bought a 21.6" with 5ms, 1000:1 ct ratio for 249 (286 after shipping).

I'd say sub 300 is what I'd pay. I haven't seen a high speed action (think close range Quake shotgun battle) on a good LCD, but my roommate's LCD is pretty bad as far as ghosting, I know it's one of the lower end ones though.

LCD's are fine. I was the same way before I jumped on the LCD boat.

I'm still on CRT. The reason is simple at first-- it works perfect for what I need and I don't want to spend the money on an LCD. But it does get more complicated than that below the surface... I'm using a Mitsu 2070sb 22". Anything less than a 22-24" widescreen wouldn't seem like enough of an upgrade for me to switch. And my wife complains about small desktop text, so going with a 19x12 24" isn't gonna work either.

A month ago, I tested the 37" Westy for my dad. I enjoyed using that quite a bit. My only complaint is that it might be a little too big. I would probably prefer a 28-34" widescreen, but only if it was at 1920x1080. But, for $799, that Westy was a very good deal. My dad is quite pleased with it.

So, my requirements for an LCD are a bit extreme. As soon as I find something that fits those requirements (and has good inputs, no ghosting, good black levels, etc), I'll consider it. Or if my Mistu dies on me. I suppose I'll just have to "suffer" through this CRT a while longer... ;-)

Look at some of the Hyundai LCDs. They are very good for the price. I picked up an L90D 2 years ago at a really good price and it's been fantastic for gaming. I'm sure their newer models are even better.
