Monitor Fried?

While I was away at school, my pops called me to say the monitor was not smelling too good and the screen blanked out.

So two months later, I have the monitor on my desk. Plugged it into my laptop, powered on the monitor, the green light comes on and it warms up (that sound) and not much else happens. I will try and plug it into a PC, but my guess is that it should not really matter.

Any suggestions? It is a KDS VS-195 19" from early 2000. Thanks

Sounds like it's dead, especially about the smell which I've experianced before as a monitor went out before my eyes.

Mine died a few months ago.I was surfing it made a crackly sound,smoke came rolling out the top and then the screen went black.Wouldn't you know the warranty ran two months earlier.Oh well it gave me a good excuse to buy a 19"

I'll third that it's dead. It's happened to me. Whenever you get 'the smell' you're most likely toast. Try to recycle it if at all possible. Lead and mercury tend to do not so great things to local water supplies.
