i just got a new KDS AV-195TF on a deal to to replace my old viewsonic. =D anyway, i put a plastic cover over my new KDS to prevent the _massive_ amounts of dust that build up over time on it. it took forever to clean off my viewsonic, and i didn't like the idea of that much dust building up inside the monitor (it's a few years old).

to get to the point, is there any harm in putting a tight plastic cover over the monitor? i sliced up an old plastic bag my comforter came in, and wrapped it around the KDS. poked a few holes in the top for ventilation. but is there harm in a monitor overheating or something going wrong by wrapping such a plastic bag over it? i mean there's ventilation holes on the monitor for a reason, just wondering how much it would have an impact, over time, etc.

I have the KDS AV-195TF and recommend you get that plastic off of the monitor quickly.
The FD Trinitron tubes in the Avitron monitors tend to run hot toward the top of the grilles and heat cannot be good for a monitor over the life of it.
Worried about dust and heat?
I purchased a monitor cooler fan that sits on the top of the monitor and pulls the heat out of the top and at the same time blows any dust floating around from falling into the monitor. The fan made a big difference in the temp of the monitor and can only be heard when you put your head about four inches from it.
High heat when compared to a little dust is more devastating to a monitor.

The cooler fan?

thanks, i checked it out and after a few minutes i checked the OSD, and it was toally flaked out. it was completely scrambled and stretched across the screen, completely illegible and static, as if you'd set a high resolution your monitor couldn't handle. i got the plastic off immediately and ordered the $13 fan. i turned it off for a while, turned it back on and checked the OSD, it's fine again but it SERIOUSLY scared the hell out of me when i saw the screwed display at first. should i be worried? i'd rather try and swap it back for another monitor then to find any long term damage in the future.

I think you'll be OK. Be aware that some monitors need to burn in for several weeks and a few little quirks may occur. My AV-195TF went blurry for a few seconds and then corrected itself. Tech support suggested to watch it for a few days and if it re occurred they would replace it but everything has been OK for about six months now. That fan will really cool it down and keep it clean also. Even if you need to replace it, the replacement will come to you very quickly and after one year they have the option to give you a refurbished unit, but this model being rather new will mean rather new reburbished units.
