A "Shadow Mask" CRT monitor is made up of many dots. Dot Pitch is the distance between each same color dot. The smaller the dot pitch, the better the picture. An "Aperture Grille" uses verticle stripes instead of dots. They have a different type of pitch called Grille Pitch. Same rule of the smaller the better.
The vertical refresh rate of the CRT is measured in Hz. This refresh is the time that the gun takes from its journey from the top of the screen to the bottom. Doing this many times creates the picture you see. Refreshing it 60 times is enough for one to see the picture, but it is also enough for us to notice flickering, which is bad for our eyes. 75Hz is the national standard for flicker free, but I think that 85Hz is a lot better. Flicker free televisions go as high as 100Hz.
