Monitor Question

I have a Dell 2408WFP monitor. I was thinking I might get another monitor the same size and resolution. I like having a second monitor for moving different windows around (I have a 19" monitor now, but its too small and the resolution isn't the same) I like the 24" monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1200.

Now that i am researching monitors, I see most are 1920 x 1080 for HD. A lot of these are in the low $200.00 range which is where I want to pay. But I don't like 1080 for a PC (not going to watch movies) and the 1920 x 1200 monitor are way out of my price range!

I kind of feel like I am getting ripped off since all 24" monitors used to be 1920 x 1200!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

All 24" monitors used to be 500 bucks too.

Just a quick glance on newegg: Cheapest 1080p (24") is 159. Cheapest 1920x1200 monitor is 289. So almost double, for slightly more res. Hell, you could buy 2 1080p screens for slightly more and call it a day.

Could they have done 1920x1200 and gotten them this cheap? Maybe. But that simply isn't how it is, and feeling ripped off is just ridiculous as both older and current 1920x1200 monitors are substantially more expensive.

My suggestion? Buy a nice 1080p screen and be done with it. Or go on ebay and get a 2408WFP (no idea how much they are), but then don't complain if it goes out and you have no warranty.

Keep in mind that the $200ish 1920x1080 are all using cheap 6-bit TN type panels which cannot display the same gamut of colours that your 2408 can (which is why it cost $500+). Many people are fine with the quality that TN offers, but if you put it beside an 8-bit panel like your 2408, it's a huge difference and will frustrate you (I've done it).

You just missed the Dell U2410 (the current model of the 2408, uses H-IPS panel) being on sale for $450ish .

u are gonna cry at any other monitor which isnt S-IPS or S-PVA like your dell monitor.

Your going to go WOW.. this cheapo 200 dollar LED is BRIGHT... but the blacks look fake compared to my dell.

And then people are going to tell you, yes, thats why the S-IPS and S-PVA's start at 300-400.
