Monitor won't work

So for the past few months my monitor has been acting really strange. Whenever I turned on my computer, the monitor light would be on but the screen would be blank. I'd have to make it work by pressing the monitor's on button on and off many many times until something would show up on the monitor. But now my monitor won't even show anything, even after pressing the on button many times. Instead, it turns itself on and off nonstop automatically without producing any image on the screen even after 20 minutes. So what I want to know is: Is my monitor dead, or is it possible that I just need to replace the power cables?

Try another monitor with your PC to rule out the graphics card. Replace the power and VGA cables anyway just to be sure, they're as cheap as chips. Then that'll narrow it down for you.

Do you see the OSD on the monitor? If the On Screen Display is showing it is more like the display card or the cable is bad. However, if no OSD then the monitor is bad. Usually, a proper working monitor will display no "No Signal" or something to that effect before going to standby mode. If you do not see this most likely the monitor is dead.
