do you think they'll give anyhthing to the customers that suffered from the breach? Say... a gift card or something

Thats the thing. They are still playing the "we see no breach here..." game. So to them they have not admitted they had a breach. I am not sure what the requirement of CA law is but I guess they have to admit the problem first?

But their forensic investigators are still looking into whether or not a breach occured

Hahahaha... They don't want to takle any responsibility for this. So I doubt they will give anything out, esp seeing how many people were involved.

Just placed my first ever order with Monoprice today. I wanted to do it 2 weeks ago, but this breach hampered me. Got two SATA 2 cables that after shipping were still $10 cheaper than any one cable that I could find locally or online. I used a one-time use secure number from Discover.

Why would you want a GC from them to buy from them AGAIN after they let your CC number get out into the wild through a security breach?

I bought some stuff back in 9/2008. That cc was marked as lost and I got a new number.

Just to be safe, I've guess I should check my accounts.

I made an order maybe a month ago, checked my statement and see something from transact-bill.com for $71.33 from 3/20. If you google transact-bill.com all the results are about scam/fraud. arg.

it costs nothing to get a new card. If in doubt, do it for all your cards. That is what I did.

It does cost me something; time. 5 min every morning the past few weeks checking my amex, 30-45 min (at least) to change my 4-5 auto payments, hassle of being out of a cc until the new one gets here.

I'm fairly annoyed at monoprice, primarily at how crappily they're handling this.

Ugh, see this pending for $24.99 too:

CHECKCARD BETZIP/PUREPLAY 800-804-4817 CA...

Never did this at all.

Time for a new card I guess.

missed this thread but lucked out and missed getting charged

Key a eye out. I thought I was safe but it seems the "list" is still being worked.

This has been going on a little while now. Some over a month ago and me and others just this week.

I'll be smarter and use google checkout next time, plus with the gift card, i could get more stuff i need. Monoprice has great stuff at great prices, they just have lousy security.

I thought i was clear too until this morning when i got an email from my bank, and this is a few weeks after the incident.

I ordered an HDMI cable on 3/1. On 3/8, my card was used to purchase 2 MS Technet Plus subscriptions to the tune of over $500. Visa FP called me and I had to shut it down (my main check-card no less).

I was able to get the charges reversed by MS - took 2 weeks though.

I contacted monoprice and they took my info and said they might call me. I have not received a call.

Seemed unlikely to be a coincidence imo.

Its not and don;t wait for monoprice.

I wrote them and got no replay.
I did write the Attorney General of CA, Monpprice is based in CA. I am not asking for money or anything else, just that they send out notices to all in tle last 3 months to check their CC and/or get a new one.

just got a call from my cc company about some flagged software related purchases in paris, france - and yes, i use monoprice quite often w/ the last time sometime in i think early-late feb but i have shopped their for years, so the "breached" cards are still being used. turns out there were a couple hundred dollars worth of fraudulent charges my cc took care of - great, now we all pay because monoprice won't disclose how many and who's cards got stolen - so do a fucking mass mail.

i really like monoprice but their handling of this has been weak. breaches happen, it is a fact of the digital life we live, it is how the retailer handles them that is important and so far monoprice has failed on that front.

I can't believe Monoprice still hasn't admitted there was a breach. I was going to post the link to the complaint form at the CA AG site as well but I see others have already done so.

I posted this in another thread but I will repeat here. The problem I see isn't so much that they were involved in a security breach, the problem is how they handled it. At this point, I think they have lost me as a customer.
