I've never seen over the ear headphones where the cable plugs in on both sides. GREAT design - imagine...not having to solder or toss out your headphones when the cable pulls out!

In for 2. Looked at the Head-Fi thread, it's humongously long. Anyone can provide a quick summary (e.g., what is the tape mod they refer to, what are some basic things we should consider, etc.)?

I got my DJ-style set today. I'm super impressed with the build-quality for <$20. The cable is removable/replaceable, which will be nice if my cats chew on these like they did my last pair...

I'm no audiophile, but they sound good to me and they're comfortable too. Great buy overall.

The Monoprice headphones are awesome for the price. Quite bass heavy, recessed mids, and a mixture of veiled and slightly bright treble (not a very even response). Might not seem good, but I was very impressed with them for the price.

If anyone is interested in some basic modding, they respond well to basic mods such as cup damping. Something basic like a layer of Dynamat with Creatology adhesive foam on top lining the cups with some sort of acoustic stuffing in the there as well would be good (even teased cotton balls will do a basic job of this). I also put some sort of felt on the back side of the driver over the outer ring that's covered in a paper-like material to help boost the mids and treble. You can also tune the sound and comfort by trying different ear pads on them.

The DJ headphones are so damn good. I had a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770's that tore up and I would never pair that much for a set after owning these. I have also had the JVC HARX 700s that are really good but more at 30 or so
