I bit for a Black Les Paul and a white strat copies.

To be perfectly honest, I paid $170 for both and they're both pretty surprisingly nice. I got a little ding on the neck pickup of the Les Paul copy, otherwise both are basically perfect.

The necks are perfect. No intonation problems, I literally tuned them and played them right out of the shipping packaging... and they were both extremely well packaged.

The finish on both instruments are top notch. The hardware is actually not bad either. Sure you "could" change out the tuners, the bridges or the pickups, but they are all serviceable.

all and all, these were a steal. Far better than any student guitars I've tried, and much better than the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. I purchased for my son. The Les Paul copy is so much better than the Ibenez copy I bought way back in early 80's. It plays like a dream! The output on the humbuckers are not as hot as my current Schecter, but it plays better.

Same as the Strat. I've never had a strat, but have played several through the years. The neck is perfect, not too thin, and the intonation was right on the money. It sounds like a strat. It looks fabulous. I paid $70 for this guitar...OMG!

I've had them both for a couple weeks now, they were cheap enough for wall hangers, but good enough as everyday players...good enough that I haven't picked up my Schecter for a couple weeks now

Thank you for your review! I recently got wall hangers for my gear, sooooo convenient. I dumped my 3-way floor stand...no more bumping it when vacuuming (or little kids running it over) plus it looks really cool on the wall. I got the String Swing brand off Amazon for ten bucks:

Super easy to install + the wood looks nice

These were so nice that I'm looking at getting the Tele and the flying V also

I'm looking to upgrade my home recording studio, and some extra guitars seemed like the way to go instead of buying some more pedals or plug-ins. These weren't risky because of their price, but a what a nice surprise that they are....nice!

Nice! Tweakz Guide is a great intro to home recording if you're not familiar:

The updated forums are here:

Although with familiar as you are with guitars, I'm sure you're probably on top of all this stuff already

Hey! First time here. Stopped in because I saw the discussion re Monoprice guitars. I recently picked up their Black "Strat", as it was on sale for 69.99 plus free shipping. Seemed ridiculous not to give it a shot, as there were some intelligent, well written reviews saying it was really a pretty nice axe. I've always been a Strat player, dating back to my professional days starting in the '70s, and I've always loved getting my sound in unusual, cheap, but well thought out ways. I do own expensive gear, but my favorite set-up is not the most expensive one. To make a long story short, I absolutely love this instrument. Great action, great finish, sounds like a Strat, and from all appearances is a well made piece of guitar, which has quickly become my favorite to play on. I kid you not. The damn thing is seemingly magic. I honestly don't know how they sell these things at a profit, even allowing for overseas manufacture. I replaced the volume/tone controls with chrome ones with abalone inlays, and the pickup selector switch to match, and it looks, and plays, beautifully. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone, beginner or "old fogey" like myself.

Some cheap guitars are very good. I bought a Japanese made Strat copy in the 80's for a steal and even those that were instructors and performers thought the guitar played awesome. It did have a tremolo which I rarely used, but it held it's tune very well.

Hey again! Just a little more information for those who might be thinking of pulling the trigger on one of the Monoprice guitars. I stopped in a guitar shop where I've been trading for years to pick up some strings. Inasmuch as I'd just bought the Monoprice Strat, I thought I'd grab an American one just for comparison's sake. I picked out the one that most resembled mine, Rosewood fingerboard and like that there, and plugged into a Vox AC30. I gotta say, I was rather disappointed. I actually like my newly purchased cheap guitar better than the way expensive American original. And I cannot for the life of me understand why everybody is always creaming their jeans over AC30's. To me it sounded flat and rather lifeless. I don't get it. Maybe it was a bad one. But in terms of sound quality, my ancient Dean Markley, in my opinion, is a much better sounding piece of equipment. It's a single 12" speaker combo, and I wish I could find another one, as I run two amps, split by a stereo chorus with a dbx compressor and elesis nanoverb through the effects loops. And get this. I'm using a Monoprice 40 watt amp with 1 10", about six feet to the right of my Dean Markley. I gotta tell ya, I'm really a fan of their stuff. The amp was on sale for like 25 bucks off, and they threw in free shipping. Take a look, as the deal may still be rolling. I read a ton of reviews on the site before buying either piece of gear, all of which were singing the praises of the stuff, and whaddya know? It wasn't nonsense. But using two different amps separated by a few feet does miraculous things to the sound in concert with a good chorus. I can run much lower gain, and get a much fuller sound. Give it a shot. Okay, I'm done blabbering. Have a good weekend!

Looks like prices have gone up since the OP. I was looking for a cheap tele and the monoprice version is over $130. Cheap but not cheap enough for me to bite when I can get a Squier for cheaper at my local shop and make sure I like the way it plays. For $70 as mentioned earlier I might actually bite. Maybe they'll have black Friday sales or something.

Wow, OP was like 2 years ago, didn't realize how old this thread was haha! Their "Pro Audio" offerings list is enormous now:

They also have some super-budget guitars, such as this $89 electric:
