Montero VS Pathfinder

I was looking for a car of late. I'm aiming for a SUV type, in particular Montero & Pathfinder. I'm prefering the Pathfinder, cuz insurance actually costs less, although total price is slightly higher. I'm not exactly sure about it's durability, but I'm trying to find one that'll hopefully last. What do you guys think?

The Pathfinder would last. It's engine is basically the a bored-out version of the one in the Maxima and that was one of the top ten engines for 6 years running by Wards Auto. The VQ engine is smooth and reliable.

I would question Montero's reliability because of Mitsubishi's past.


Do you live in Toronto? Because Nissan is giving test drives for Pathfinders where you can drive in a ski resort or something.

Considering the Montero's terrible crash test results and the Pathfinder's popularity/reliability I'd go for the Pathfinder.

How's the resale value of the two vehicles?

Clueless is if he needs to ask, but that's what we're here for, right ? The pathfinder is one of the nicest SUVs in any class, and they LAST! I sold a ten year old one for nearly 5,000 once, and it had over 150,000 miles. Nissans are every bit as good as Honda and Toyota. Mitsubishis are so so on the surveys for major repairs.

I worked for Nissan for 10 years and we had Mitsubishi a couple years.. I would never own a Mitsubishi.. Nissan was ALWAYS a very good choice..very dependable.. Mitsubishi was horrible.

What about the 2002 Explorer? Same price range, new and improved suspension, and no more Firestone.

I drive a 95 Pathfinder. To date it's got 101K miles on it. It's been great. No repairs other than routine stuff. I strongly recommend the Pathfinders to anyone who asks. I keep saying I'll get a new one when this one dies but it just won't die. Oh well... I could have worse problems.
