Monthly Power Consumption Calculator?

Say I have a 400W PSU running at 80% effeciency, and I leave it on for an entire month, how would I calculate how much power it used?? Is there a calculator on the internet somewhere?

*I know I wouldn't be using the full 400W constantly, since that's only really at max load, but I'd like to know theoretically how much power I would be using maximum, that way I can take a percentage of that, and see how much it would cost to leave it on constantly.

Shouldn't be hard to compute...

400W * 24 Hrs a day * 30 days a month = 288,000 W*Hours = 288Kw*Hours..

So given ~ $0.10 per KwH, you're lookin at $28.80 ... If you actually consume 400W on your system.

Where is it that you live, paying 10c/KwH? Cause here in NY, it's 18c, going up to 25c soon.

Also, you're assuming full 400W are being used 100% of the time. That's an huge overestimation. I'd say that on average a powerful system will draw no more than 150W when idle, and will barely break 200W average.

mines pulling 294w from my ups on what is idle for me, 2x rosetta@home

turning on rthdribl pulls 354w. so i guess when gaming with rosetta folding worse case is ~350w.

of course, as zepper pointed out to me, that doesn't mean my components are using that many watts due to the efficiency of the psu, but i guess thats a fair assessment of my power draw.

25cents/kw/? Jeez. I'm pissy about paying 10c/kw in IL. My folks have a summer lake house in rural MI and they're paying 7.5c/kw.

If you really want accurate information, get one of these Seasonic Powerangels. It's very nice for determining power usage on a plug-in item.

3.73 amps (120v)
445 watts
0.03 kw
450 VA.

Yeah, the odds of using the full 450W is pretty slim, as most power supplies will burn out if fully loaded for just a few minutes, much less 30 days But the OP said he wanted a worst-case number for comparison...
