We're going for about 6 days in august. We generally like outdoorsy stuff, not too big into museums unless they're unique.

Food recommendations would be great as well - my wife is a vegetarian.

Thanks!

I always wonder when I see someone visit a city and then list that the are "outdoors" types ...

There is some ok hiking and walkig on Mount Royal (the hill in the middle of the island that gives the city its name). There are some ok areas to walk along the river on the western part of the island and waking around Old Montreal just off the downtown core can be interesting. I would research that online.

Old Montreal, the big ass mountain with a huge cemetery, their Museum of Fine Arts isn't bad either.

Enjoy the attitude from certain people when you speak English.

This is relevant to my interests. Thinking of hitting Montreal in early September.

Quebec City is really gorgeous. Just spend time wandering the old city and walking along the walls. If you're going to see one museum-y thing, go take a tour of the Citadel.

I encountered zero attitude speaking English in Montreal for the 36 hours I was there. I have no suggestions for outdoorsy things to do, as I tend to leave cities to do those things The main purpose of our trip was to go to YUL for our NEXUS interviews, so there's always that. We're looking to head back in the fall to actually see the city beyond the area immediately around our hotel.

I was born and raised in Montreal, so I always love the comments from people that have never been there.

Very small chance of an issue of snootiness for not speaking French. Depending on where you are, reasonable chance of running into people that do not speak English.

As far as strip clubs go, if you really care, the ones in Montreal compare well with most other places. Full nudity and there are places with men strippers for women (and places with male strippers for gays if that interests anyone). Many people from nearby states come to Montreal for bachelor parties.

Many college students visit because the drinking age is 18 and is fairly laxily enforced.

Poutine gravy has a high chance of containing animal fat, so if the OP's wife is strict in her diet it may not be for her. Also has cheese which may be a deal breaker.

Lots of good places to eat and fun clubs and lots of good festivals in the summer (I really like the Jazz festival and the fireworks festival).

Joe Beef and Au Pied De Cochon are two that I have on my list from TV shows, magazines, blogs...but I haven't been to Quebec in a long time so I haven't been to them myself.

If you go, please review.

I have been to Au Pied ... Very good. Super high fat content. Traditional Quebec food done in a high cuisine style but without sacrificing the basis for the food.

Fois gras poutine is a good example.

Certainly worth a visit.
