Looking at new cars tonight, I test drove quite a few and it seemed as though all of them (even the Highlander w/ the seat all the way down) rubbed my hair on the left just a tad.

Yes, I can drop the seat way back & drive ghetto, but I don't do it & ain't gonna start for a moonroof.

Yes, I'm fairly tall.....6'3".....but I've always told myself I wanted a moonroof. But I dunno.......

???

I used to drive a car with a moonroof. I used it a few times the first few months for the novelty, then never again after that. I never got the memo explaining what exactly the purpose was, and I'm not smart enough to figure it out on my own.

It didn't seem to help the car cool down any faster than opening the windows, but I always had the paranoid feeling a bird would drop a dookie on me if I opened the moonroof. Since I'm usually driving, I'm not going to look out the roof and take in the night sky sights or anything. I'm not a big fan of the sun so opening it to get some light was not high on my list of things to do. Overall, a big waste of money for me. If Honda let me get ABS without getting the roof I would have.

I had a sunroof in my '93 Ford Probe years ago. I'm 6'4" and I had to pretty much lay down with my arms completely stretched out to drive the thing. My head bounced off the roof every time I hit a bump. Maybe that's what's wrong with me now...

I never get it if I have a choice, but I won't say no to a car simply because it has it, either.

I love my moonroof. I use it as often as the weather allows. Best way to get maximum amount of air ripping through the cabin: moonroof all the way back and all windows down. It's a freaking vortex in my car then.

After having driven a Miata for many years, I HAVE to always be able to open something above me.

A moonroof is ALWAYS a must for me.

I like the extra light it lets in. I rarely ever open it because I don't like the noise/chuffing feel it usually creates above 45MPH in pretty much every car.

Don't need, but it's a nice luxury. Since you live in CA you might have far more chances to use it than I do here in the midwest. We get approximately 7.4 days a year that are either a) warm enough to use it, or b) have no chance of rain popping up in the next 5 minutes.

I rarely ever use the moonroof in any of the cars I've had. It's just another thing that can break in my opinion.

do you get a car w/ power or AC? The moonroof breaking seems trivial for a new car. It's just a preference and cost thing.

I voted yes because I feel claustrophobic w/o the window there. But again, by no means a deal breaker. I only got it on my car because it was part of a package I wanted. I find tilt+crack of rear windows to drastically improve air flow in my car while keeping the noise down and wind out of my face.

if you buy beat down cars everything can go wrong.

I have not seen many cars recently with sun/moonroof problems. Earlier ones had a lot of issues though in some makes.

i dont really get the point of a moonroof either. it adds weight to the car and if it's old enough it might leak.

I like moonroofs in the cars I cruise in...the cars I play with I try to get a solid roof for chassis stiffness.

I used to have a sunroof in my Prelude and Volvo. I miss that thing so much. As soon as i got into the car, it would be open. I didn't have much of a choice with my current car but would get one again without hesitation.

yes. the best thing about it is i can leave it vented and keep the car aired out pretty much all the time.

I love them. They break, and also cause water leaks all the time, and that's what I do for a living. Everyone should get one.

Moonroofs are a great feature. You can pull back the shade to let more light in as you wish, and you can just tilt it up if you don't want to open it all the way and get all the wind noise that comes with fully opening a moonroof at speeds >30 mph. After driving my parents' 03 Accord EX, I really miss not having one in my '96 Accord. Really makes the car feel more "airy" and open.

In most cases, yes. A moonroof is one of those things that once you've lived with, can't do without. However I'm 6'1" tall so sometimes a moonroof will hinder headroom if its closed

Yes - definitely - I love mine - but I'm not tall enough to ever have to worry about head room either

i am not that tall, and I don't find a moonroof necessary. As other moonroof "hater" mentioned, imo it's just another thing that will break and leak. I had one on my previous celica, and it's just useless most of the time. and in regards to letting air out, I just roll down all windows and that does the job.

The roof panel has about as much stiffness as a piece of aluminum foil regardless of whether it has a hole in it or not. The added weight up high in the car would have a much larger effect on handling than a tiny reduction in stiffness of a floppy thin piece of sheetmetal. You might as well buckle all the seatbelts in your car to "tie down the chassis" and increase the stiffness.

Slight off-topic, but Honda excluded the moonroof from the otherwise top-of-the-line Accord Hybrid because they wanted to cut down on excess weight.

Personally, I love the moonroof in my car. There is a ribbed diffuser that pops up when it is open that really reduces buffeting and noise. It's a great way to get sunshine and fresh air at 80 MPH without blasting it right into my ear and drowning out the radio. I especially love it on the way to work, with the cool morning air and sun waking me up. Even at lower speeds, I often choose it over opening the windows, because you hear so much less of other cars, stereos, motorcycles, etc. If I just want a little, I use the tilt feature. There are times when I don't want the sun in my eyes or I want maximum quiet in the car, and then I just close it and the shade.

Think of it as the middle-ground between a closed roof and a convertible.

I am fairly tall myself (6' 4") and drive an SC400 with a moonroof. I have the same problem with my hair touching the roof and that's with me laying pretty flat.

I hardly ever use the thing and wish the car never came with it.

Can you guess how I voted?

My MR2 would feel downright claustrophobic without the moonroof. Also, I could never fit in my car with a helmet if I didn't have a moonroof. Also I can remove it completely to make it a sunroof.

I approve of them. In fact, every car I've owned except for the van has had one...

I'm 6'4" but have long legs, so I seldom have problems with headroom even with a moonroof (and hence prefer one). My dad is also 6'4" and has short legs, so it creates a real problem for him. I have liked moonroofs since I had one on my '84 Toyota SR-5 wagon in college, and still like them.
