A franchise just opened in my town. I feel like a burger and fries tonight and want to know if it is worth driving over there to try.

Sadly, we lack In-n-Out, but we do have a Five Guys. Five-Guys is currently my favorite fast burger. But, I have read online that Mooyah attempts to clone In-n-Out, a burger joint that I would love to try, but is across the country...

Anyone ever sample their burgers? Are they as greasy as typical fast foot burgers? Also, how do the fries compare to Five-Guys Cajun fries?

I think Mooyah is much more like Five Guys than In n' Out. I still prefer five guys to both, but you should give it a try.

I still think In n Out is way overrated. It just does nothing for me. There's one close by, but I rarely go there except to confirm it's not better than I remember.

We got a five guys too, I prefer it; it's a bigger, jucier burger, but leaves me a bit underwhelmed as well.

The teriyaki six dollar burger at Carl's Jr. is better than either.

For better burgers, I go to independent places. We have a top rated diner, a place with 'Adobe' burgers, a NY Deli style, and others.

For chains, the casual restaurants like Chile's or Red Robin seem a lot better.

the worst thing that could happen is you spend <$20 for 2 people and find out it's not any good. just go for it.

Mooyah is an unabashed Five Guys clone, but imho not quite as decent. It's certainly not terrible though.

I find one thing true, there are almost always local small chains or independents that have better burgers than the vaunted big chains like 5 guys, In and Out, etc.

You'll only know by trying it. Even if it seems not worth it after trying, don't worry, there'll be other nights and other burger joints. You'll be hungry again within 24 hours, I guarantee it.

Back, here is what I have to report:

The place is almost exactly like Five-Guys.

Bun was buttered and toasted, not great, slightly above average. Toppings were OK (lettuce, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions), nothing special, standard Five-Guys assortment.

The fried burger overall was above average, but not as good as Five-Guys.

Fries sucked, did not finish my small order, ate about 1/3 of them and threw the rest away. On the plus side, they were cooked hard (like I like them) and salted properly, just did not have a good flavor.

One thing though, LOTS of people there, might be due to the new restaurant effect. Most of them had shakes, so that might have been a redeeming quality, but I did not go for it because it was rather late.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I like Culvers more than Five Guys. Yeah it shocked me too. Still haven't had a chance to try in n out and haven't heard of the place in the op. Need to look that place up now!

You're in TN right Schad? Which part?

Yep I'm a big fan of east TN. Was actually just on the Ocoee this morning! Have you ever had a chance to make it to Litton's in Knoxville?

Yep, that place is great, just a bit far, my girlfriend and I ate there earlier this week. I usually take out of town guests to Littons, King Tuts, Ali Babas and Ye Olde Steak House. Great joints and the guy that runs King Tuts is awesome.

Is Tuts the place in South Knox? Vestal area? I've actually never eaten there but if it's the place I'm thinking of then I drive past it almost every time I'm back in town to see family.

Ye Olde is a definite. Calhoun's is not too shabby either.

It is in South Knoxville, just over the Henley Street Bridge on a side road. The atmosphere is awesome and the owner (Moe) provides entertainment to the guests, tells jokes, does magic tricks, etc. I suggest going at night, if possible. He has the best Greek salad ever and the Turkish coffee is amazing.

But, take cash and your own booze, no credit cards and it is BYOB.

I have since realized that the true glory of In-n-Out is the incredible value. There is nothing bad about the menu (though the fries are pretty bad--I didn't know they had "cajun," so I'll have to try that out).

BUT, the quality of what you get, for the incredible price that you pay--there really is no better value anywhere else, imo.

of course Chili's and such have much better burgers, you can't even compare them.

InO is only to be compared to other fast food joints. no diners, no delis...that's invalid
