Morals Without God

This reminds me of the story of a farmer who heard the noise a lion made getting into his barn for a sleep. Watching the farmer wandering around in the barn looking for the source of the noise the lion thought to himself, 'He wouldn't be so calm if he knew I were here.'

Be careful what you wish for.

I don't believe that we don't have lions in soceity that should be dealt with, but it is where my moral starts, and then I start taking reality into account

I guess there's no point in being subtle. I don't want anybody doing to me what they want done to them who hates himself. You may not have noticed but humanity is on its way to extinction because it has a death wish. We hate ourselves and are destroying ourselves with our left hand while trumpeting idealism with our right. We are dying because we will not feel what we feel. We would rather die than know what we feel. The lion is in your own head, he is your head.

As said before, good men will do good things, bad men will do bad things but for good men todo bad things (you are describing the LRA i presume since that is what your first statemt is about a bunch of Christians believing they are righteous in what they do) that takes religion (or Government.)

The biggest problem isn't religion (Government) it's the usage of preachers (Politicians) telling their minions that homosexuality is bad, that adulterers should be stoned and so on,

It occurs in all three world religions (Governments) and by a lesser degree in Judaism (Government), amongst the Orthodox tribes who are just as fucked up.

There are morals that are obvious to all, like thou shall not kill. But then there are morality questions, like what is this thing, Homosexuality? Discourse, educates many, but others rely on Religion or Government to dictate the answer.

And that's not necessarily bad.

For the thinking person, it is just part of the decision. For the unthinking person, at least some organization thought about it.

But Morals, are certainly, and obviously, possible, without Religion, or Government.

In the USA, only Government has the force to make you "moral."

They also have the force to make you "immoral."

I agree with you here. Much of what we come to believe as moral is taught, or a product of our upbringing. Many times if others believe something different, we, especially if the view is extreme, say someone is "brainwashed". Im not so sure.

Having travelled quite a bit, Ive learned a few things about what I thought of as moral, or "good". Mostly what I learned is those of us in the US really have some lessons to learn from other cultures about morality. We talk a good game, but we practice something entirely different. We say we love kids, yet we sexualize them at younger and younger ages. I mean, you can buy panties for 10 year olds that say Hot Stuff on the back. We say we love our elderly, yet when theyre too much hassle we put them in homes.

Anyway. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts, blackangst.

I can certainly empathize with your point regarding aging people, and how they are less respected in our society than in other societies.

It's pretty much a no-brainer to me to treat your parents right, as they age, as they treated me right when I was young.

For me, personally, that means not putting them in a home.

I also use that same sentiment when some driver pisses me off on the road.

What if that is someone's Grandmother?

And I relax...

It's just not that big of a deal.

There are other things much more important.
