Best line:
"it looks like several universal physical constants agreed with us. Thermodynamics is a bitch."

Don't know if this article is true (maybe it's misinformation to throw off the inquirer) but it's sad for those looking for deals on a 260 or 280 and good for ATI.

More rabid Anti-Nvidia trollbait. Believing anything from the Inq is like trusting Michael Moore or Rush Limbaugh to not spin a story.

i'm not here to start INQ-wars, but from my exp, the INQ has at least been partially right in the past. i wouldn't be surprised if this story were more than partially true.

If it does turn out to be true, it sucks for Nvidia. I think ATI is going to have a very Merry Christmas :wine:

From what I've read around the web this is completely plausible. Great, I planned my step-up for these new cards and it's up in December. =(

Like when they said "a major NVIDIA partner is switching?" So, everyone was thinking some NVIDIA partner was switching to ATI or Larrabee or something... The "truth" was revealed as EVGA putting out an Intel x58 chipset SLI board, with the BIOS blessing of NVIDIA. Big whoop! As soon as I heard the original news of SLI being allowed via the NV200 chip, I knew some current NVIDIA motherboard partners would do that. The simpler BIOS implementation just reinforced that. However, the way TheInq worded it...

I got a good laugh out of that article, where he made it sound like he meant all along that the "defection" would happen in the motherboard market .

Anyone reading his original speculation would have assumed that he meant video cards (specifically Larrabee) due to his mention of ATI (not AMD) and Gainward, and he didn't say anything at the time to indicate otherwise.

Someone over there needs to make their mind up

55nm GT200 confirmed, again

It?s alive

We don't have any additional details, but sometime in December we should finally see Nvidia's refresh of the GT200 series and this time it will be a 55nm chip. The introduction might even take place in November, but the real McCoy will come in December.

Naturally, it should end up cooler and faster, probably clocked a bit higher than the current GT200, and it could be paired up in a dual card, the rumoured dual GT200 55nm card that is.

Nvidia hopes to narrow the gap between ATI cards and its own or if all goes well to get the performance crown back. This is Nvidia?s only hope as its real hope, the 40nm chips, are coming March 2009 at the earliest, and we suspect that Q2 2009 is a much more realistic time frame. Until then they have to try to fight ATI with all they have.

No one is "sticking up for NVIDIA" in this thread, the majority of us seem to be "sticking up" for unbiased jounalism.

I guess after watching the Inquirer/Charlie spead FUD year after year people just get tired of reading it.

It makes them wonder if it's worth the time to read things like "NVIDIA going out of motherboard business", "All NVIDIA GPUs defective!", "HD2900 to bury 8800GTX", "*800GTX to launch with external power brick", and the like when it's pretty obvious the author just has an axe to grind with NVIDIA and is only starting negative rumors about a company that refuses to recognize him as legitimate press.

I've been reading this forum for six years, and during that time I can't ever remember The Inquirer ever being cited as a credible source, the  smiley gets used a lot when they are mentioned.

OP's link is The Inq. That's Fudzilla.

Fud vs. Inq: FIGHT!

This is an article? Reminds me of something I wrote when I was in middle-school. Comments (Note: I don't use the word "story") like this belong in blogs, not as a journalistic story/article.

I didn't think it was possible, but my view of the Inquirier just went even lower. Maybe if they get rid of Charlie and his biased opinions I will believe their stories more than not.

Agreed this would have to verified by somebody to be taken seriously.

If I remember correctly the quick arrival of the gt200b was suggested by several sites at the launch the gt280. Seemed that lots were not buying the gt280 as they felt it would be better to wait.

Why encourage people to wait and than not deliver? If inventory is the problem, someone really overestimated sales and likely wishes they did not release early info on the gt200b.

Never makes good pr to hype a product and delay delivery.

I believe it was mostly The Inquirer suggesting the GT200b would be launching soon after the GT200 in an attempt to slow GT200 sales. Some other sites/people speculated "a die shrink will have to come soon because the GTXs can't be sold at prices competitive to the smaller 48 series GPUs!". (which was false)

NVIDIA has never hyped the imminent delivery of the GT200b- with any product release their goal is to keep the competition in the dark until launch day.

If that's directed at me...let me just say, yes the Inquirer is a lot of the time, full of junk, unsubstantiated rumours, dreams Charlie had etc. etc... but they're not completely wrong.

A lot of the rumours that Charlie posts do turn out to be...well...over-inflated.. but he has got some things correct..

On the other hand, you could say that other sites that Nvidia support as "legitimate" may want to gloss over bad news about the company in fear that they may not receive the latest card for testing in a timely manner..

I guess after watching the Inquirer/Charlie spead FUD year after year people just get tired of reading it.

Tired?? Not really...if anything it's kind of entertaining at times...

Well if he has no "ties" to the company in question, there's less of a reason to gloss over bad news no? We could also say that you definitely do not have an axe to grind with Nvidia.. I'd be suprised to see any bad comments towards Nvidia from any focus group member..

Rollo is FAR more honest in his assesment of ATi then Charlie is of anything nV related.

At this point if Charlie would post the Sun was going to come up tomorrow I would get nervous.
