Thanks,

Computers connected on this router can share files just as if it was a switch. Some routers, linksys namely, have a "built in switch" which gives each computer a max 100Mb/s bandwidth. This router does not appear to have that, therefore all computers have to share the 100Mb/s of bandwidth. This isn't a big deal if you only have 4 computers connected though, in the event that all machines are using a high amount of bandwidth they still each get 25Mb/s theoretically.

Switches are pretty much overkill until you get 20 or more PC's coming into play. 10/100 hubs are fine.

thats not really true, it really depends on what you're trying to do. if it is just to share an internet connection, then yeah, a hub will work fine since even 10mb/sec divided by 20 computers is still faster than the max dsl throughput so there will be no slow downs. But if you are doing transfers between computers on the network, you will immediately notice the slowdown when you have more than 2 computers connected on the hub.

$7.50 shipping is for everything they can pack into a small box, incidentally, which means buying a lot of junk you might use someday is probably better than buying one NIC for that much shipping...

Got the router for 10 bucks, the USB ethernet adapter for 10, and a Firewire PCI card for 7. Let's see how long they take to ship...

The USB wireless NICs were $22.99 from an original $79.99 I think. I actually had an order for 2 but went and canceled them. I placed an order at microcenter for store pickup for a couple of new in box Us robotics ones for ~$60 after tax. Each has a $10 mail in rebate, though it may be one per customer, so I'll probably only get one of the rebates

actually, i'm wondering whether belkin is lower quality than the other companies that make networking equipment.
i bought a few wireless compactflash cards, belkin, netgear, dlink, and the belkin performed the worse. its signal would die out before the other ones would.

I just bought a switch from Belkin.(refurbished one)
I try to plug my internet connection, first it works just fine, after that it won't work
Just die.

Already try belkin and netgear before, same result.

Do I have to install the software that come from the manufacture if I want to use the switch?

The connection work just fine if I use the cheap hub from the school. (I live in dorm using Edu connection)

Any Idea what should I do?

Thanks.

Hmmm...actually all of the reviews on Belkin wireless products give Belkin top marks. I do know it's USB wireless adapter is the best of any USB Wifi device. It routers always got high marks, but I've never actually tried one.

The Belkin router I bought on the 50% off deal (F5D5231-4..mine was new...) had amazingly good configuration software. It has worked flawlessly since the day it was installed. The refurb NIC bought in the same deal is also flawless....

Got back from vacation and had my wireless router waiting for me. Plugged it in and nothing, no lights. Verfied it is getting power and even popped off the cover. The card inside has a status light that when I plug the unit in lights up, but none of the panel lights will. I tried connecting to it thinking maybe the panel lights are just bad, but nothing. It appears to be dead. This unit was no doubt a refurb. Oh well, back it goes, hopefully with no problems.

Silly question, but I can't seem to find the option to buy any product that I looked at - there is 'buy now' or 'add to cart' type button. am I missing something?

Edit:
N/M - found it - I should have worn my glasses

The range on my Belkin USB wireless network adapters is the worst of anything I own. D-Link, Orinoco [the best], and SMC all do much better. I have three Belkin USB wireless adapters. I use one at close range and the other two sit on the shelf unused.

ordered wednesday, and got it delivered yesterday.

from the looks of it, the usb 802.11b wireless adapters are brand new. just white boxed. unless the person that returned it was very careful with it. no cosmetic anomalies at all. both work flawlessly.. i think i should have gotten a few more just in case to save on shipping.

the pci firewire cards though do look like they were returned. the boxes have a sticker indicating that they were QC'd or something and the cd that came with them look used. the cards on the other hand look in excellent to new like condition. tested both out and working as well..

i'm very pleased with my purchase. belkin gets 2 thumbs up from me.

The stuff i ordered came fine, and it's all working without any obvious problems. A router for 10 bucks can't be beat.

Just ordered 9 nic's, 2 routers, and another firewire card (it comes with the cable)...am setting up a small computer lab for a school in india, and this is stuff is going to come in handy.

the router i ordered for $30 works great, signal is pretty strong throughout the 2 story house even in the patio area. Also this router is a lot more compact compared to the other major brands.

Ok.. I ordered about 2 weeks ago.

I got all the hardware, however, I got pretty burned on the deal. I ordered 2 routers, 2 10/100 PCMCIA and CardBus networking adapters, a usb networking adapter, and some other stuff.

One of the routers is DOA, the lights all turn on, as if someone tried to flash the thing with a new firmware and they turned it off before the firmware update could have been complete. The PCMCIA nic is literally DOA, i cannot get win98 to detect it, winxp detects it as a memory card. DOS refuses to detect it. The cardbus nic is ok, but the damn dongle is broken on it, and now i cant eject the cable. i haven't had a chance to test the USB nic, but i'm hoping it's good.

Anyone know how good belkins RMA policy is?

so far all of my stuff works great. two Wireless AP's, usb adapter, pci adapter.

i was havig problems installing my usb adapter. could not get it to work, and i am by no means a wirless noob. so i called them up, and after doingn everythingn the guy on the phone said, it still didn't work. so he just says to call the rma department and get a number.

but if it is flat out broken, it'll be easier. remember, lifetime warranty on these things, even refurbs.
