Hmmm...got my second shipment, two routers are DOA. Lights flash on and off at intervals (all the port lights, power light stays off) but no connection, can't even get in to the configuration screen.

Tried resetting it, made no difference. Calling tech support on Monday...i think these are going back. They dont have any more available on their refurb section (got some new bluetooth stuff, though) so i think they'll just do a credit onto my card.

Now to test the 9 NIC's i ordered...

whew and i though it was just me. i wasn't sure if it was the new SBC dsl line i got but all the lights just flash on and off when my other (new) router only flashes when data transfer and only the port thats plugged in to LoadRunner

but SBC's PPPoE sux0rs, dam contract. as for the refurb router, its almost not worth sending back since it was so cheap, unless they pay shipping

How would I connect my belkin router(Using the uplink for dsl modem) to another belkin router? What cable(Crossover or Straightthrough) and from what to where? I need the extra ports for other pcs to share internet.

You wouldn't...that'd be doing it the hard way. You can do this one of two ways:

If you have (1) DSL connection, then connect a Hub (preferrably a switch if you have a lot of machines doing things at the same time) to one of the Router ports. If you're using DHCP, expand the address range to cover the additional Hub ports + the original Router ports (excluding, of course, the one your Hub's plugged into).

If you have (2) DSL connections, then yes, you would use a crossover cable from one to the other. Make sure you keep the address (DHCP and Router internal IP address) different, so you'll be able to distinguish one from the other. Also, security-wise, it'll make it that much hard for prospective hackers (read: 10-year-olds) from getting through to the other Router.

Hope this helps.

NM- Already answered.

thats not really true, it really depends on what you're trying to do. if it is just to share an internet connection, then yeah, a hub will work fine since even 10mb/sec divided by 20 computers is still faster than the max dsl throughput so there will be no slow downs. But if you are doing transfers between computers on the network, you will immediately notice the slowdown when you have more than 2 computers connected on the hub.

You don't really get any slowdowns until you get a LOT of people doing file transfers. We had 213 PC's connected to cascaded 10/100 hubs and it worked fine. a 30 meg file transfer took a little longer during peak times (like a few seconds) than during non peak times...nothing really noticeable. For home use, yeah, switches are overkill, but they're so cheap now that it makes no sense to use a hub anymore.

They actually replaced my dead routers with new ones, sealed in retail boxes

Those firewire cards are a REALLY good deal, for the cable alone.
