More Cheap Watch Madness

I have to make my opinion on these "great deals". I bit, as these are posted by an admin/mod.

After three different types, ordered as stocking stuffer gifts, I wouldnt GIVE them as a gift. The bands fall right off, the batteries if you are lucky last past the first 30 days. And in just about any other way, are crap. They also turned my skin green/blue when I tried to wear a disel ripoff.

With all the things banned in this forum, this should be one of them. Just my opinion, I am sure to be seen as a thread cap. I await my point and possible timeout in the corner.

So the quality on the "Diesel" ones you got sucked? Too bad. Maybe Mommy will slip $4 under your pillow just to stop the sad flow of your snuffling and tears. As I noted in my initial thread on it, I didn't buy one myself . . . because it was too effing fugly.

My experience on the one I did buy just about a half year ago, the faux Swatch watch, has been great! I made it my go to daily wearer because I was curious to see just how well it would stand up, since its initial basic quality seemed so good.

And it has performed flawlessly in daily use these last 6 months!

It keeps perfect time, the band remains in perfect condition, it does not look worn cosmetically in any way, and the battery has lasted just fine so far.

The basic quality of this $3.75 watch has continued to impress me in all respects.

People tried to crap on it as well, calling it a woman's watch. It isn't. Here are some pics of it next to two Seikos, two Skagens, and a Bulova. All are MEN'S watches except the smallest Seiko.

It's not a flattering pic of it. The watch looks much nicer in person, imho.

So, that's been my experience so far. I wasn't going to actually buy the genuine Shshd from the OP until Senseamp showed it's uncanny resemblance to his Tissot.

Now that I have, I'll probably try to make it my next daily wearer. And I'll be sure to let you know my results with it 6 months from now.

Folks, if you have any sane sense of perspective on life at all, you should know that the acquisition of $5 shipped watches is best treated as a hobby.

Hanging on the results and getting publicly bitter about it all is for losers.

Thanks! I really am sorry your experience wasn't so great, and what I wrote about your Mommy that you quoted was my response in kind to your angry and accusatory thread crap, which you have now seen fit to delete.

Wtf my being an Admin has to do with my opinion on ridiculously cheap timepieces, I still don't know.

$5 watches, geez. If there was ever a situation where "YMMV" and "Caveat Emptor" applied, it would be here. Personally, I wouldn't have taken the chance of giving them to others as gifts.

But like I also said, my experience with the $3.75 faux Swatch watch has been amazingly positive. The quality of ergonomic design (such as in the band, which is made of a strong yet flexible enough material, and is attached by metal rollers to the crown, so there is NO point at which repeated daily use will cause it to break) is a marvel of what four bucks shipped can yield, and a real if decidedly minor key testament to human ingenuity.

That some of these watches would turn out to be crap is almost a given, inherent in the "Here's a few bucks, ship me your watch all the way from China" proposition.

All that said, I'm really curious to see how well made this Tissot knock off turns out to be. You never know until you have it in your grubby little hands, but it looks like they spent quite a bit of time in striving for attention to detail with it. It could turn out to be a score, or it might break on the second day.

It's an old school mechanical movement, so there are a ton of possible weak and wear points. Otoh, being of older design, it could be an inventory dump! It may have been designed to sell at a higher price point, possibly as high as 8 or 9 dollars! We'll see.

Like I said, for me, this is a throwaway hobby, not to be taken too seriously.

For whatever reason, every time I bring up this subject of stupidly inexpensive watches, it seems to generate intense controversy. D:

Perk, I don't think it has anything to do with the subject of stupidly inexpensive watches that creates controversy. I think it is the fact that it is YOU posting it, albeit you are posting it as a forum member and not omnipotent overlord many still see you as top dog, and as with anyone who carries such notoriety you will bring more views to this thread then the average thread. With more views brings more people and the more people who read the thread the more people who will start something, or just try and be attention seekers.

Depends, one of em went in about a month, the other i used for a few weeks then gave it away, the other two are working fine after about 5-6 months(?)

I live in Shanghai now and it is amazing how many really decent looking watches there are (Chinese brand names) for well under $10. My experience with them has been better than "fakes". Most last months and months and who cares if they die after that because they just cost $5 or so. It is amazing that they can ship them to the USA at that price.
