Totally agree, a super duper frugal dual core llano, may have been a better call, but a brave one.

I look at these graphs, & there is usually an expensive, thirsty, gorilla or two, but mostly down in the sweet spot, there is little in it against amd re CPUs.

When u get to graphics, there is a lot in it against intel.

I dont think amd gives a damn about the sad market america & eeu. The action is in s/e asia & stealing market share from intel. Llanos is perfect for both.

They dont want something that sounds like an aircon, distracts junior from homework even more & is impossible to protect from outages & costs a lot more.

Unfortunately, they need educating. Those who can most benefit, are afraid of not going intel.

I think I get SB but not sure. They are targeting power users who want IGP (& will pay the premium over normal cpuS), no wait, totally crap igp, and overpriced to boot - huh?

If there is any sanity, I see amd owning the consumer market from netbooks to igp desktops & then some. Right there is 90% of the market in a 40% gross margin business.

I see no solution for intel. Amd can make them dance to their tune if they market right.

I cannot see intel w/ a competitive igp for years, and amd can just up the ante in a snap w/ an existing better gpu they can cut and paste into their revised llano dieshot.

I (attempt to) play the same games on my laptop that I play on my desktop...save for DAO which I won't even bother to install on the laptop.

So I am looking at the game through two different LCD's and two different GPU's. Resolution is different too but not crazy different. (19x12 vs 14x9)

The drop in IQ when playing on my laptop is just pitiful. Now I can handle the pitiful stuff, its the buggy graphic artifacting quirks that get to me.

Sure you learn to live with it and to work around it, but the laptop is well past the stage of having one foot in the grave and I'm not going to intentionally make the same mistake twice.

And I'm also aware that today's Intel IGP is likely no where near as sucky as the aging one I aim to replace, but since I've got a choice and I already threw good money after what turned out to be a shoddy product I'm just not interested in giving it another chance this time around.

You can get a laptop that is mostly for gaming at a decent price. I bought my present laptop from Newegg for $650 and it has a GeForce GTX 260M. I'm quite happy with it; it's not given me any issues (apart from low battery life, but that's to be expected). It's the same speed as the desktop GeForce 9800GT, so it can play most games at High or Medium/High combo with 2x AA.

I was expecting the Radeon HD 6620G to be faster in performance than it is, but alas, that seems impossible for now if you want very good battery life. I was expecting GPU performance at least within 10% of the 9800GT, not the same performance as a 9600GT. It's still definitely a breakthrough, though: the 6620G is around 2x faster than the Intel HD 3000, and full system power consumption is kept to under 40W at full load, compared to around 95W for my "gaming" laptop. It can still play games at Medium settings, which is a good compromise.
