Inform me please: when has nvidia written a driver for another company's products? What you said makes no sense the way you said it, so maybe if that's not what you were intending to say, try rephrasing it within the proper rules of English grammar.

Anyway, we now have two competing products, each of which slightly surpasses the other in various different areas. Since I have had problems neither with ATI's nor with Nvidia's drivers, I base my decisions on other things besides that. 2D image quality is one area that matters much to me, and at this point the Built-by-ATI cards still surpass the Geforces in that area (unless nvidia has decided to get strict on their OEMs this time about that issue).

Ruffled? I find this amusing ATi cheerleaders don't want their precious investments to become obsolete, and I can respect that. What is amusing is that they'll say just about anything to make the competition look bad. I mean hell, what are you guys gonna muse about now that your main focus of ridicule is no longer relevant?
You JUST don't get it do you? I *still* haven't said the NV30 is *bad*. Nor have I rah-rah'ed as you put it. It seems to bother you to the core that I would recommend the Radeon 9700 over the GFFX though I could state my reasoning until I'm blue in the face. Does that make me a "fanboi"? In your books, obviously so. With the quiet cooling option, one of my concerns is addressed. It's still significantly more expensive and still runs too hot for my liking. A lower-clocked and cooler version will not outpace the 9700 Pro though the "non-ultra" FX may cost exactly the same as the 9700 Pro.
Only time will tell.

Now will you stop bashing me just because I'm not all bubbles 'n beans over your new dream card?

I never questioned whether it was true I merely doubt that a $700 FX would cause ATI to worry.

ATI has never had the compatibilty that nVidia has, at least not recently. Remember when AGP 8x first came out? ATI cards wouldn't even run right with it, but nVidia's cards ran AGP 8x right off the bat. True, ATI had the first AGP 8x cards, but if you take into account when the drivers came out for them to actaully work properly with 8x AGP they probably are about even with nVidia. And I still remember people all over these forums having compatibility issues centered around the 9700's, which I think have finally been quelled with the latest Catalysts.

My purpose here isn't too bash ATI. They have good stuff, but I believe they just release it before the drivers are ready, and I think that makes them look bad. Sure nVidia makes us wait longer, but when I bought my GF4, I didn't even think twice about compatibility with my hardware.

Does anyone have an ETA for Nvidia's launch of a lower cost version of the FX chipset? You know, something like the Ti 4200 version of the GeForce 4 line.

Well my take on the FX's cooling is that it is a very good idea, but the fan is WAY too loud. I think if they could use a quieter fan, it would be the overclockers choice for cooling. The using the PCI slot next to the card is a lame excuse, but the loud fan simply needs to go for a quieter more efficient fan.
