What is the "Trib"? Never heard of it...
NEW YORK Senator John Kerry picked up a raft of newspaper endorsements on Sunday, widening his lead over President George W. Bush in this area
Kerry gained the editorial backing of at least 27 papers, with Bush winning the support of nine that we know of, giving Kerry the lead by 42-22 in E&P's exclusive tally. He has many more large papers on his side, maintaining his "circulation edge" at better than 3-1: approximately 8 million to 2.5 million (we will post a complete tally later today).
Among his new supporters were four papers that had backed Bush in 2000: the Bradenton Herald in Florida, the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colorado and the Daily-Herald in Arlington Heights, Ill., and Muskegon (MI) Chronicle

That's a big endorsement huh? Are they not good? I don't have much experience with the Chicago Tribune. How does the Sun-Times compare?

Last poll from Missouri had bush up by 2% (9 days ago)
TAMPA, Fla. - In a break with tradition, The Tampa Tribune, a Republican standard-bearer for decades, refused Sunday to endorse anyone for president for the first time since 1964.

Beyond Iraq, the neoconservative doctrine that drives Bush is not workable or affordable. Military force should be used decisively and sparingly, not in a 21st century crusade to spread the American way of life.

Gaard - ty for the info, I stopped getting the "Press" a few months back. No suprise at all they went with Bush, I still remember the time they picked Clinton either 92 or 96 and all the local uproar that came along with that.

Ok, am I the only one who finds it disturbing that newspapers are openly endorsing or 'supporting' one candidate over another? Regardless of whether they're 'endorsing' Kerry or for that matter Bush.
Shouldn't it be a newspapers job to report, umm, news? Not be some lame ass pawns in a political game.
Sure, papers have been doing these kind of things for ages now. But not to the same degree as they are now (Just look at Foxnews with their demonizing of Kerry).
Maybe I'm just over analyzing this. But I honestly feel newspapers and media (The news kind) in general should just report the news, not be picking 'sides'. Then again, journalistic integrity has been going down the drain lately, so I'm not surprised it's gone this far.
Am I reading to much into this? Meh, who knows...
