What do you people think of the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 80mm case fan? Anyone use any of these? They're the quietest I've seen so far at 20dBA and move 28CFM of air.

Eventually I'll have a quiet machine!

If you want quiet fan dBa ratings aren't what you hear, its the airflow. I use the Panaflo 21/24cfm because it pushes less air against the grill.

I would not touch a silencer fan with a 10 foot pole....unless the pole had a blade on the end of it and was moving really fast.

Er, why not?

If you're going to bag on something people are asking about, you could at least give us some reasons.

Sorry I didn't explain better. Here are my reasons.

The are $9.60 a piece, tailed L1A's are $7.00 at teamawe

I'd like to know who rated those things cause if they are EITHER 20 dBA or 28 CFM I'm a monkey's uncle (my sister doesn't even have kids let alone monkey children)maybe if you invert those numbers it would be accurate.

I bought 2 of them less than a year ago and one of them died after less than one month.

They have crappy wiring, don't even have passthrough connectors and the Molex pins are so loose it's almost impossible to plug them in without a lot of effort.

I have seen other people with similar stories so I don't think this is an isolated case.

I have two computers in my house, both with PC Power & Cooling Silencer 80mm case fans. Mine has three in it, my wifes has four. They've been in for almost a year, and my computer is on 24/7. None of them died yet, but the 92mm fan in my 2CoolPC Plus died after four months, and it went into service as soon as the PC Power & Cooling Silencers did. Southbay Engineering, incidently, replaced my 2CoolPC Plus . Ericd I had absolutely NO problems with the pins on the connectors (of the PC Power fans), although I did wish they had the pass-throughs. In their favor, however, is the longest damn wires I've ever seen on a fan.

They are a hell of alot quieter than the average Sunon or YS Tech 80 MM,and they push a decent amount of air. In fact, using the PC Power & Cooling Silencer case fans, with real grills on the fan openings (after taking my trusty Dremel tool to the case), and using foam gasket tape isolate the fans form the case, they are not only quieter, but they are cooling my wifes computer (which was mine beefore I rebuilt it and gave it to her) than the same box with the stamped fan openings and the damn noisy Sunons. Are they really pushing 28 CFM? I doubt it, but I'ld use them again in a heartbeat. Hell, I may try the Panaflos.

Hmm, yeah, those Panasonic's look nice...but I have to invest in a couple good HSF's first...I'm thinkin Alpha PAL6035's and some 16.1 dBA Adda fans...pricey but nice.

I would definitly suggest the PAL6035/Adda combination any day. As for Lenny's experience with Silencer fans, I am glad yours has gone a lot better than mine did, but it doesn't sway my opinion of the fans. You are right though, they do have outrageously long tails. Yes I will admit they are quiter than sunons or YS Tech but I still say that for the money and the specs Panaflos are the way to go.
