These are as cheap as any other junk 1080 set, but have a higher resolution.
The higher res is nice, but the lower refresh and PQ limits its usefulness.
If you want a cheap low end TV then there is no reason not to pick one of these.
If you wan't a nicer TV with top quality picture your going to need to spend double or more.

If you want 4K for gaming there are monitors now under $1k that will do it better.

Is the 30hz at 4k a deal breaker?

Depends, works fine for basic monitor usage and would be fine for certain types of games (like turn based)...but not so great for FPS or twitch gaming.

If you have 4K movie material 30hz shouldn't hurt either...but the PQ isn't that great.

Might be a good cheap option for a non (FPS) gaming HTPC.

We use them for displaying surveillance video cameras. A lot of cameras are 2560x1440 so the extra resolution really helps. 30fps doesn't matter since most surveillance is set at 10fps.

Wow, what cameras are you using?

amazing prices; if I was a programmer I would have jumped on this! Alas, I play games and require some color accuracy...

Hopefully this means that when 4K is mainstream, the prices will be very reasonable!

Lots of manufacturers have 5MP IP cameras out now. We use several different brands. They look great if they are set up correctly and displayed on a good monitor. Somewhat pricey for a mom and pop store but a drop in the bucket for large corps.

Ah man! Prices went back up. $405 for a 39" 4K display is pretty hot!

Four new Seiki Pro models are being released soon, so prices on these particular models will come down again.

Seiki Pro 55" SE55UY06 $1,299
Seiki Pro 58" SE58UY06 $1,599
Seiki Pro 65" SE65UY31-C $2,199
Seiki Pro 85" SE85UY06 $7,999

All have a refresh rate of 120HZ and contain 3 HDMI, 1 USB, 1 Composite, 1 VGA, 1 Component, 1 Antenna, L/R RCA input, Optical output, PC audio input, earphone jack

I actually credit Seiki for helping lower pricing on new tech like 4K. Some of the bias against these sets comes from the manufacturing country of origin being China not Korea.

However, I have seen the 50" screen calibrated, and it's pretty gorgeous picture for a no-frills value line of televisions.

When using it as a computer monitor, you can have multiple coding screens in front of your face all at once without having to alt-tab between them (as you do on a smaller screen). Just an easy-of-use thing.

I would personally go for the upcomming Vizio P series 4k tvs. Better image quality with FALD, able to do 60hz instead of 30, and $999 MSRP for 50inch moddel. I just hope it has a displayport connection (fingers crossed) instead of just HDMI 2.0

Wow, thanks for the info. Looks like there will be strong competition before these even hit the streets. I imagine those MSRPs will quickly drop too.

Its good if you just wanna use the desktop @ 4k. You can game @ 1080/120 or 1440/60. However, the 30hz is noticeable especially when the windows 8 metro theme starts up you can see the lag.

Wish they had a 39 to 40 inch to use as monitor/small tv.
