What we need is a drug to supress sexual appetite.
Sex is natural. Ever go to the zoo and see the monkies getting it on? Are they sinful and should it be stopped?

Sex in and of itself is not sinful. However, deriving any form of pleasure from sex IS sinful, as sex should ONLY be used for procreation, and only then by married men and women who engage in the distasteful yet necessary activity while under the direct supervision and guidance of their priest. Confession, repentance, and prayer are mandatory steps in this process.

Hopefully my sarcasm meter is off, but that was the most inhuman thing to say.
Sex is pleasureable from a physiological sense and is hardwired to be. Only the mental side of things can do anything to warp those feelings into a distasteful nature and shows a mind out of balance with the body. To think that a person who should know nothing about sex should be included in the sex process is ludicrous. That is how religion gets control of people, by making them think natural physical functions are sinful. The use of fear and guilt can screw up the mind.

I understand where he is getting the numbers but I think he forgets the number of people infected doesnt stay the same. True, you might get 4:6 odds, if that can even be considered good. But at what point does it go back to 50\50 or worse?

This is an odd article. I have never heard of people saying more sex is safer sex. It defies logic and real world experiences. Ask Africa how their more sex policy is working out. Millions of people infected with the virus.

you guys are missing the point...

Chance of Infections per Total Encounters is the stat the author is focusing on.

If there's 5 infected people and 95 healthy people available to hook up with, thats a 1/20 chance you nail someone with HIV.
If there's 5 infected people and 995 healthy people available to hook up with, thats a 1/200 chance you nail someone with HIV.

Like the article spelled out - if there is only a small group of promiscuous people, they will have a disproportionate # of sexual partners compared to the rest of the population, and will serve as disease vectors between the infected and uninfected.

i.e. Person A is infected and has 500 sexual partners who all have 2 sexual partners each (Person A and their spouse), thats 1,000 sexual encounters, fully 1/2 that are directly exposed to disease. Very high chance that the disease will spread quickly from Person A to other people and then to their spouses.

If sexual activity is more evenly distributed among people in general, then there's less chance of a single person or persons becoming a 'nexus' of sexual activity because the folks who would have gone to Person A to get sex would not need to.

i.e. if the 500 people mentioned above all have 10 sexual partners, and again only 1 is infected to begin with. That's 5,000 sexual encounters, of which 10 are directly exposed to the disease initially. 10/5,000 = 0.002

so lets compare the proportions of sexual encounters exposed to disease.
scenario 1 => 500/1,000 = 0.5000
scenario 2 => 10/5,000 = 0.0002

and yes as time progresses, the disease will spread through both of the populations, but in scenario 2 it will spread more slowly as the entire population is not directly linked through a single disease vector, and at the same time the population in scenario 2 is enjoying more sex.

To accurately model these scenarios, the transmission rate of the disease per encounter must be known, as well as the frequency of relations between various pairings. (i.e. husband-wife would occur more often than husband-prostitute ... maybe...)

Given enough hookups, everyone in the circle gets the HIV. The number of people in the circle is, therefore, the number of people who end up infected. The more uninfected people you throw into the circle, the more hookups are required to reach this point, but the more people end up being infected.
