Damage in my knee, orthopedic surgeon suggests I meet with one of his colleagues, thinks I would be a good candidate for OATS or mosaicplasty. Just recently had a torn meniscus repaired (previously had a torn ACL in that knee) and it was revealed I had a full thickness loss of cartilage all the way down to my bone in a weight bearing portion of the knee.
Aside from that, I'm in good health and very active. I would like to get back to that same level. Everything I've read about these procedures indicates that they are very effective at restoring damaged cartilage and have good long term success. The major drawback being the long rehab time. I'm not particularly concerned about rehab, I'm fine with doing that. I'm most concerned with long term prospects.
I'm 29 currently. The knee pain isn't bad enough to keep me from doing anything I would normally do... but obviously the doctor is concerned it will be an issue down the road.
So before I get into any more detailed questions. Has anyone gone through this?
