The older you get (w/ a little luck of course), the more you realize that people run on very different clocks. Some folks start to check out in the 40's and even 30's. Others are sharp right right into their 80's, 90's and even beyond.

Of course there are tons and tons of confounding variables that accrue as we age - diet, exercise, general emotional well being, and so on. And let's not overlook genetics.

Granted, that at the median, someone in their 80's is going to have more issues than someone in their 60's. But I think it's probably a pretty wide, flat-ish bell curve.

I could give two shits what happens to Mitch McConnell. That man has both collaborated and led so many things which have caused so many millions of people harm for many many years for most of their lives. He has been one of the most powerful members of the US government and strategically used that power to constantly oppress people, cause them harm, no matter what the cost, to protect white wealthy conservatives. Millions have suffered because of him for decades.

He is evil and I don't care if he suffers.

What are the current rules for the governor who will select his replacement? I've heard different things from different sources

I believe he must select a republican. But, why can't someone change registration real quick?

Kentucky state legislature got spooked by his health a couple years ago and put the power in the GOP's hands.

The party of the senator get's to put in three candidates.

Seems like to me it's a first amendment violation. You can't force the governor to say stuff against his will right?

At the very least he could just not pick someone and stall, which effectively denied the GOP the spot.

-There is surely another failsafe built in where if he doesn't pick the choice defaults back to *drumroll* the KY Senate again.

Although with a large enough delay and court case etc, maybe Dems can get some movement on a few basic items.

Would be the ultimate send off to the guy that played every angle of the rules to get an edge to have the same happen to his seat when he's out.

It’s the other way around: Trump carried Mitch’s agenda. Mitch didn’t stray one inch from the course his donors set for him.
Yep, that meeting with top republicans (after the nomination, IIRC) was likely ‘we’ll back you if you sign off on our legislation'.

This is just another example of why we need term limits and age limits, or at the very least, if there are not going to be an age limit, mandatory testing to ensure they are of sound mind and body.

I saw the latest video and its really sad that we have leaders with this level of reduced functionality still holding onto the reigns of power in this country.
A physical handicap shouldn't prevent someone from being in congress, unless it prevents them from actually representing their district/state.

I can see Parkinsons but I disagree with Gupta on the possibility of stroke or seizures. Easily could have been a stroke that led to seizures or straight partial/focal seizure. There is such a thing as absence seizures. 🙄

Mitch had a good long run ( maybe too long ).

Way past time to retire, Mitch, Diane and Joe needs to clock out.

This adage about speaking softly while carrying a big stick, well I'm all for that and all, but you will have some folks who think you need to dress and groom for the part and practice the part in front of a full length mirror in order to act that way, while surreptitiously being nothing of the sort behind closed doors that manifest themselves in the corporatist all for the rich legislation they myopically push to pass. That soft speech turns out to be a pack of self-serving lies and that stick is exclusively used to beat down the working class into submission.

That right there is the definitive description of Ronnie Reagan in all of his sordid glory. McConnell however, well he lied his ass off to his subjugated working class constituency just as much as Reagan did, the difference being he really didn't care nor did he need to cloister his intentions because the only thing he needed to keep control of was the party faithful back in his home state where he knows where all the skeletons are hidden and where all the key players are up his sleeves to be played whenever he needs to cheat to win and that's just about every hand that he gets dealt. Call that expert play or clever card sharking, but he's cheating against the majority of the nation every time he does it.

Seems logical to assume his episodes of what looks like fits of absence of mind are going to get more frequent until they simply join up. Hell I knew chronics that went off to never never land the exact same way even after they were off the fun stuff for years afterward. That blank unblinking thousand mile stare is also something I saw when guys couldn't handle being in the deep shit and they went tripp'in off to who knows where until they get set down and treated for shock. What's also logical to assume is that 'ol Mitch is having a face to face with Karma and over those many years that Mitch plied his trade in treachery she used up all the mercy she had for him so what's left for her to give but.........payback?

Well if he freezes and stands there for three days, frozen, no movement, then maybe the republicans put some lights on Mitch and a few ornaments and there you are.... the 2023 Senate Christmas tree.

Like him or not (and I'm definitely in the not category) it cannot be denied that McConnell has probably been the most effective Senate majority and minority leader ever. His down home, low beat form of speech is excellent for communicating sound bites clearly. He also is ruthlessly effective in achieving his goals-great at arm twisting his colleagues and unencumbered by any moral code or ethics. To say he was used by Trump is a joke-McConnell played Trump like a fiddle.

He is the minority leader right now, not a critical job to the country. His physical fitness is pretty irrelevant to doing his job and I don't see him quitting until he has to. The good thing is his replacement (no matter who it is) won't ever be as effective. I'm praying for some bozo like Cruz or Paul but that will never happen. Hopefully it will be some GQP wackjob that turns off independent voters.

Fun fact-next time someone points out the evils of sex, drugs and rock and roll point out that Mick Jagger is one year younger than McConnell.

The clips of him glitching out are some of my favorite press conference moments. Right up there with R Budd Dwyer.
