It would be very stupid for any politician to do that. About as bad as putting an unsecured email server with classified information in your basement. And if it is true, the consequences should be severe.
It would also be very stupid for the email server company to advertise who there clients are in this way as well. Very sloppy.

But if your goal was to stir things up, spread mistrust and conspiracy theories to further cause divisiveness, it would be a great strategy.

Remember, the russians don't care who wins elections, just so long as the country as a whole is in chaos. I think a lot of people miss that point.
