MOST ADDICTIVE VIDEO GAME?

I just thought of an obvious one everybody missed.
Back in the days when PC gaming was still pretty lame, a new shareware title was being passed around like currency in a prison.
Doom caused me more lost hours of my life than any other game. I played it over and over weeks at a time. The gaming world was a relative drought that Doom flooded and took over.
I'm sure most of us know the first episode levels by heart, and many of us bought the full version and had fun with 2 more episodes.
Its probably the game that cost most of us started in the upgrade battle.

CIV III was quite an addiction, but Rhye?s of Civilization, a free Civ III addon, somehow kicked it up a notch:

- 158 new units (including cultural-based animations and a 2nd unique unit for each civ)
- 25 new wonders
- A totally redesigned tech tree
- Religions
- A 170x170 world map (A separate biq for the random map is included)
- New terrain graphics and new team colours
- A new resource system that makes the game develop like real history (Earth map only)
- Three new civilizations : Austria, Ethiopia and Israel
- A revised rule system, that corrects any inaccuracy of the original game
- Complete civilopedia entries

I would say the GTA 3 series, but it's not so addictive... it just gets played for a long time because there's so much to do in it. Atleast for the new ones.

While MMORPGs are more compelling and have taken up much more of my time, Counter-strike is the only game where I've been "just one more match.....just one more......just one more" and checked the clock to find it was 5:00 AM and I'd been playing for 7 or 8 hours. That, to me, is more what addiction is.
