What part of I'm not talking about making a folder structure don't you understand?

All I'm talking about is moving media to the device's storage.. not in any particular folder structure. Android doesn't care if you put all your media in the root of the SD card; pics are accessible in the Gallery and other pic apps. music in the music apps, etc. You can make your own playlists if you want, regardless of where the music files are located on the SD card.

I didn't say it was hard or that it would cost anything.. what I've been saying is that it shouldn't be necessary in order to do what I'm talking about.

Most people don't want to do the extra work. It's too easy to create your playlistism in itunes and just copy the.music you want to your device. And if you are like me with smart playlists it even automatically deletes and copies new music to my ipad based in the rules I set up. Saves me a lot of time over doing it manually

Even on Droids you don't access internal memory except apps. That's why they have SD. Apple decided to just give more internal memory and allow it to be used for all files.

You have to root a Droid to change that behavior.

Apple is designed to appeal to the broadest range of customers and be simple...which it is. I pop my iPhone on the cable to charge and all my items are also synced up. I can automatically pop up pics/videos/audio to manage those files between my PC or MBP.

My other phones sometimes had Outlook sync, but a lot of times you had to buy that software and the interfaces definitely weren't as polished. Many had their own bizarre navigation and directory setups...Samsung's tools are like that. Nothing like Windows or MacOSX in look or feel and more akin to something back in the Windows 3 days.

Well for one the iPhone doesn't use SD cards...

It doesn't matter! Whether Apple uses SD cards or something else for the device's storage, the usable volume can be partitioned a lot of ways.

Also IMHO if you are using SD anyway a separate thumb drive is a better concept for most of us that have far too much personal stuff on our phones and would rather skip carrying cable around.

Are you dense? Because you either are or your reading skills need a lot of improvement. I'm talking about sharing media/apps between your computer and your phone or tablet. Privacy and "personal stuff" is not an issue.

1. Media files are usually transferred from/to your smartphone or tablet so they may be played/viewed/listened to or as a backup.

2. Copying them from or to the phone/tablet shouldn't require a special piece of software (iTunes or another volume-mounting driver/app). No good reason for why Apple requires the separate software/app has been offered.

Copying the music you want to an Android phone is no more difficult or any less easy.

This presumes that it can only be simple if it's done the way Apple has done it. That is completely false. But hey, if you're talking about syncing media, HTC and others offer tools for this but they don't force you to use them like Apple does with iTunes. The option for both is there, whether someone wants to just plug it in and have the computer do all the work or drag/drop their items separately.

No different than having to download any driver.

However, once my phone is plugged in I don't have to go through iTunes to manage the storage volume. That's my preferred method to move videos and photos around. It shows up like another hard drive/memory card in Explorer.

Stop feeding the troll. You guys realized you just spent half the thread arguing with someone who admits he posts these anti-Apple comments to get a rise out of the rest of the forum and who will never in a million years use an Apple product?

Meanwhile, I'm looking at getting a new $2000 Macbook Pro.

Maybe a lot of people defected or brought Android in the first place as they didn't want to be locked down or told what to do by old SJ. Naturally they wouldn't like Apple for that would they? Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

I'm glad there's iTunes syncing for my mom, though. All she has to do is have iTunes open when she inserts an audio CD, and answer "yes" to the prompt asking her if she wants to copy the songs to her library. To get the songs onto her iPod, all she has to do is plug it in and let it sync. Done. She's the kind of person where I have to help her every time somebody emails her photos in an archive. If it weren't for iTunes and iPods, I'd tell her to stick to a clunky CD player.

Actually, most modern Droids have a large internal memory for storage and apps, and an SD card. OG Droid does not.

Doesn't matter how many. Whether you select music in iTunes for transfer or select music in Explorer, it's no more difficult or less easy.

Seriously, let it go, I did. He is just trolling.

HD crash and dies, there goes moms itunes library unless she back it up to another external HD. My biggest complaint with itunes is the fact that stuff purchased will get lost if your HD dies and apple wont let you d/l it again without purchasing it.......unless itunes changed in the last year.

it's with music and movies. apps you can download again on as many devices as you want.

this is why i still prefer CD's

and apple will let you download the music again. email support and tell them your issue. if it's once a year or so they will reset your account on the back end and next time you open itunes and check for available downloads it will download everything you ever bought

If you contact iTunes support, they'll let you get a full download of all your purchased content. This is SOP, but I believe it's at least only once a year and you have to explain what happened (ie hard drive crashed). But they're pretty good about it if you just explain what happened.
