Was that prior to 2600?

2600 Jr (the slim wedge model with the rainbow stripe) was my first console so no to anything that predates it.

I think it does, but not by much.

edit: after wiki search, it appears colecovision came out 1982, while atari 2600 came out 1977.

Cleaning out the closet, figured why not just take a shot. Excuse the crappy iPhone quality, and my dog walking in mid-shot.

Those are all the original boxes, from when I got them new, some in better shape than others. But considering how much I moved as a kid, I'm surprised they held up that well. I have no idea what happened to the original PSX's box, but it's not with the others. Neither is the Gameboy's. The Atari I was 3 when it was purchased, but I don't believe it had a box.

Only systems I've owned that aren't pictured are the Atari Jaguar and Sega 32X.

Quite impressive. I'm not as old as you, nor was I ever the console pack rat like that. It was typically something where I had to trade in the current one to get the new one (like going GBC to GBA to GBASP, or when we had to trade in the N64 when we got the Xbox or the Xbox for the Xbox and PS2 for the Xbox 360).

hah that is awesome that you still have the boxes. i have all of those that you have as well, except the ds, and i have the ps4 and x1 as well. i even have the same version of the sega cd that you have. i wanted the one that hooked into the bottom (and think that design is better in general) but by the time i got it, that version was long gone.

I don't have the 2600, 3DO and the Wii hooked up right now, but all are in working condition. I also have one of those NeoGeo handheld things that comes with a 'case' to hook it up to a TV via HDMI, but I'm not going to count that as a true console.

probably right now... NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, PS2, XBox, PS3, XBox 360

the most I ever actively played at the same time was probably in the bridge between NES/Genesis and N64/Playstation, though, where I'd be playing (or replaying) games on all systems on a semi-regular basis.

nowadays, I actively play my 360, play games on my PS3 once in a great while (but otherwise just use it for Netflix), and maybe play a game on my PS2 once in a blue moon.

Currently own:
Sega Genesis (model 2)
Nintendo 64
PlayStation 2 (which I got cheap after my PS3 fat bit the dust)
PlayStation 3 (had a fat, which is in parts in the basement. Got a Slim to replace it)
PlayStation 4

I currently have the Genesis, PS3, & PS4 hooked up.

Handhelds:
GameBoy Pocket
GameBoy Color
Nintendo DS Lite
Nintendo 3DS
PSP
PS Vita

I play the 3DS and Vita but my handhelds tend to get neglected.

I guess technically 4 before I sold the 360. I still have a ps2 lying in a box somewhere though that shouldn't really count. Not even sure if it still works.

Maybe I'll just sell it for almost nothing on CL to get it out of here

I have Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Color beside my consoles. My favourite gameboy game is the Wario Land 2. I played with it many hours. Sometimes I still play with it

No one else had a pong machine?? Amateurs.

I had a pong knockoff in 1976. Dont recall the brand name, but it was definitely a clone. Speaker was actually in the console itself. Didnt use it much as I got an atari 2600 the following year that took me into the 80s.

There are literally dozens and dozens of knockoff pong consoles. Even Nintendo had one. IIRC, Shigeru Miyamoto's first job was designing the case for the Color TV Game.

The original Pong console I believe was the Sears Tele-Games, which was made by Atari. Though the original Magnavox Odyssey had a rudimentary table tennis game three years earlier.

Here's my gaming history:
I had an old Atari, NES, and Sega Genesis at the same time....

I sold the Atari in a yard sale, bought a Sony Playstation...sold the Genesis and NES. Then sold the Playstation.....bought an old Dreamcast on eBay in like 2003. I got rid of that after I bought a 360 in 2006. I'm still on the 360, but will likely get an Xbox One (already have 1 wireless controller...just saving up for the system) Mostly 2004-2009, I was playing PC FPS and sim games like BF2 and FSX.
