Maybe those songs just don't evoke the same emotions in the younger generation that they do to you?

Depressing songs tend to be depressing for reasons unique to the individual. A lot of songs that make me sad probbably evoke little of those depressing emotions in others.

I totally agree. My comment was in jest, but Hank William's songs were extra sad given his very short career and early death (at the age of 29 if I remember right).
