I would say that it happens to be any song to which you have personal depressing memories attached. Nothing that hasn't been said before.. River of Tears and Blue Eyes Blue by Clapton are like that for me.

OOOH. Good call on the Peter Gabriel song. I totally forgot about that one. Kazaa here I come!
