Was there an ending to ET on the Atari? I know you had to find pieces of a phone to build, then some guy in a trench coat would grab you and take you to another screen, apparently for no reason. You would fall into a hole, or just die while walking across the screen for no reason. I have no idea how to play that game.

I remember a friend of mine that was really good at video games (I wasn't) could never seem to beat A Boy and His Blob on the NES.

yes, same here, it's TOO hard --- maybe I just think this way because I was quite young when it came out .... but still, another IMPOSSIBLE game is TUNGUSKA --- haven't played it since I was a "midget" --- it's VERY, VERY hard ---

Can't remember if i ever finished that game, but i remember lots of great memories !

I did, but it took a lot of work. You have to beat Medusa at the end and she shoots big-ass snakes at you.

I HATED the damned Eggplant Wizard. FVCKER!

A bit of a comment on a few:

SMB: moderatly difficult
Megaman series: The difficulty drops as a function of it's version, I beat 2-6 and each one was that much easier than the previous
Zelda 2: Shadow Link was my biznatch.
Contra-Shattered Soldier: okay, that one pisses me off. Alot. (I can't even get close w/ cheat codes)
Tetris: there is no end to mode A, mode B is easy.
Battletoads on the Gameboy: I couldn't even SEE the lines on my screen (literally, the display wasn't upto the task)

Racing games:
Top Gear: fun, moderate at best.
Metropolis Street Racer: varies, some are easy, some are near possible
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2: The computer cheats, but even then it still couldn't beat me.
Road Warriors: owned, repeatedly, on one quarter
F-Zero: pretty hard
Jet Moto 2: again, has ANYONE beaten this one?!
Pole Position: I never did get very far
NASCAR Heat: some good performances, some bad.
Sega GT: Very hard (to keep playing, it bored me)
Super Mario Kart: owned big time. A 500cc class would've been nice

You've gotta be kidding me! Blaster Master not that hard? I probably put a couple hundred hours into that game when I was a kid (and some hours recently) and I couldn't beat the damn thing.

I think I'll try the game on an emulator with save state. I must beat that game.:frown:

A lot of the stages bosses can be beaten with tha pause trick. You pause the game after shooting a grenade, and the boss still takes damage. LOL.

Ikaruga for the Dreamcast. Last game for it I think. Imported. No codes/cheats. Its one of those top scrolling plane fighter games. Might have gotten to the 4th level. Uber hard.

*nods* I can pass Level 1 with an A-rating on easy. I've unlocked up to Level 3, and died my way about 1/3 through Level 5 (the last level). This is all on Easy Mode, forget Normal and Hard

/laughs

Easy-Mode playin' cheese-eatin' wannabe gamers don't deserve to play RSG2.

I find it easier on Normal than on Easy - at least that way I've got a steady source of energy bursts. I usually get schooled on about Level 4 - my first continue.

It was bad enough trying to drink my way thru college - pot bowling for cash and hustling pool.
Then they got this big darn black box with 2 round dials on it. That PONG game whipped our tails for weeks.

Oh, man . . .

I actually beat Bard's Tale 2 & 3 on my C64. I never played 1. There was a follow up though, called Dragon Wars, that was one of the most open ended RPGs I've ever played. That was hard as hell. My dad and I beat it in like 6 months, with no cluebook or nothing.

Another hard one was Maniac Mansion - anyone remember that? I always got put into the dungeon and there was one stinking pixel that opened the door to the dungeon, you had to hit that and sneak out really fast.

I've got a good video of ikaruga that shows just how insane the game is if anyone wants to host it. BTW has anyone bought ikaruga for gc? Is it the same as the dreamcast version?

Old C64 game called Raid Over Moscow... my GAWD... that game sucked balls, we had so much trouble just getting out of the hanger!

Oh, and beating all of Rallisport Challenge is insanely time-consuming. That's like trying to complete literally everything on Gran Turismo 3 ASpec!

EDIT: some racing games like V8 Supercars and F1 2001 are pretty friggin hard... but since they're pretty realistic... damn fun!

Yes, there was an ending to ET, the space ship came and picked you up. I finished it. I never finished Raiders of the Lost Arc for the 2600 though (my older brother did).

I spent a lot of hours on Maniac Mansion for C64. Don't think I ever finished it. A friend did. The sequel was Zak McKracken. The Indiana Jones and Last Crusade game had items from both of those. I couldn't get very far in it.

Yes, Raid Over Moscow = hard! Beach Head was too.

Ikaruga: "If we make the levels near impossible, we don't have to make very many of them" <-- it works... (I love it)

Seriously, I can tear through Ikaruga no problem until the miniboss in stage 3. The laser beams I can handle. But why god why is it necessary to shoot blobs too? He gets a life or two or three from me.

Then the damn third stage boss, it is just so damn hard to be in the right spot to not get hit by the million little lasers.

I can get to stage 4 without using a continue usually. But the first minute of stage 4 just kicks my ass all over the place. How on earth is it possible to beat that? I can dodge the lasers, but the feedback from the enemies I shoot is what usually gets me cause I got to switch colors a million times a second.

I play on normal. I refuse to play games on easy. But man....
