Impossible Mission on the Commodore 64.

Name says it all. You'd have to be about 30 years old to remember it properly.

First of all, you've got to be kidding about super mario 1. That was easy as hell. Mario 2 on the other hand was a little bit of a pain. But nyway, the hardest game I ever played was on genesis. I think it was subterrania, or a very similar game. I played that game for like 2 months solid, I could never get past lthe level 4 boss. It was one of those multi-part head things and it was impossible to fire enough ammo to break off more than lik 25% of his parts. The whole game was ridiculously difficult, I think you couldn't touch the floor or cieling without killing your HP, and basically 2 hits killed you. That was a nightmare.

Rush n Attack was brutal, I hated those damn paratroopers.

And Jurassic Park can suck it, I remember spending all day running around collecting the stupid dino eggs. I did like the t-rex tho.

Another vote for the entire Ghost N' Goblins/Ghouls N' Ghosts series along w/ Maximo on PS2... they're hard indeed.
Contra series was pretty difficult too.

Shadow of the Beast was cool Psygnosis game for the Amiga. Good music. SOTB 2 had a neat intro too.

Yep, I mentioned it on page 2. I'm 32.
The yell he makes when you fall was permantely imprinted in my brain. We used to go around doing that yell.

Sweet Link. The Game was Agony. It was 1991 and that game was better than anything on PCs (both video and sound). I still remember that music... That list also reminded me how frickin hard Shadow of the Beast was too. THAT was hard.

EDIT: Crap. I just found cheat codes for it now that I know the name. Hmm.. makes me wanna fire up that 8mhz beast and start popping those floppies in and out. Hmm..I do have that emulator, Amiga Forever..maybe I'll try that.

Liberation on the Amiga CD32. Fun game, but damn it was tough. You had to explore this huge city looking for a certain guy. I'd love to get a CD32 and play it again. Never did beat it.

Chessmaster

Playing against the ChessMaster guy. I don't think I will ever beat him either.

newbiepcuser wins by a technicality.. I doubt any of us beat the Chessmaster. One, because on the slower systems, the Chessmaster took way too much time to make moves. And,, the computer Chessmasters nowadays are impossible.

BTW, I beat Zero Wing on an emulator without returning to or saving a state. I died once. It wasn't a hard game.

In my opinion, Battletoads on NES and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES are the hardest games. Battletoads is hard because it just plain out requires memorizing very long sequences of moves.. like, if you actually beat the level 3 race, the Rat Race is much much harder. In TMNT, which I beat using Game Genie, the end parts are impossible not to get hit. Get hit by Shredder 3 times and you're dead.. It's tought because all the bad guys move faster than your turtle can.

All of them were pretty hard for me, but when I was having to pump quarters to play, Dragon's Lair seemed the toughest. Plus the fact that is cost twice as much to play. Three attempts at the first scene and I was usually gone.

Actually there are different settings. On normal, it's not difficult to beat. On grandmaster mode, you gotta be bobby fischer tho

The thing about dragons lair though was that if you memorized it you could beat it easily on one credit. I saw a guy do that once, and he said he could do the same with Dragons Lair 2 and Space Ace.
