....but I digress, how about Pink Flamingos? Although I have seen a lot more disturbing movies than Pink Flamingos, I would say it rates in my top ten. Requiem for a Dream doesn't even rate in my top twenty of most disturbing, but probably because Pi is my favorite movie of all time.

I can't think of many that I voluntarily watched that was disturbing but I thought Vanilla Sky was disturbing (yes, I get disturbed by movies rather easily).

confirmed. there isn't an american film on my top 10 most disturbing films.

aside from the obviously stomach churning content of ichi, I'd have to say that the korean film "bad guy" was one of the most morally disturbing flicks I've seen.

The most disturbing part was the rape scene of course... you would have to see it to see how vicious it was. But that's not even what really disturbed me. What disturbed me was the pedestrian that walks by and could have stopped it, but instead walked away.



Another is In The Light of the Moon

This was just disgusting and disturbing. And to think this was based on a true story. Ed Gein, the person this movie was based on, was insipiration for such movies as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lamb.

*ehhh* @ irreversible. While I thought the movie itself was really quite good, I thought the rape scene was a bit of a cliche. Yeah it's "X-treme", but being gratuitous in any particular field is hardly a recipie for original or genuinely disturbing material. I thought the rape scene in baise moi was much more interesting.

Actually, Salo does sound disgusting. But then again i don't like sado/masochist movies, so i think i'll pass.

A Clockwork Orange - disturbing factor 5/10

Requiem of a Dream - disturbing factor 5/10

Neither of these movies shocked me much. Pretty disappointed with Requiem, I heard so much hype about them.

SHOAH--he interviwed Germans who althought their towns were next to death camps in the war still denied the Holocaust ever took place.
He interviewed a jew who was allowed to live b/c he was a barber, his job was to cut the hair of those going to the showers to be gassed. one of the people's hair he cut was his own wife. He was allowed about 10 seconds per prisioner. those 10 seconds were they last he ahd with his wife and he knew it.

Claude Lanzmann directed this 9 1/2 hour documentary of the Holocaust without using a single frame of archive footage. He interviews survivors, witnesses, and ex-Nazis (whom he had to film secretly since though only agreed to be interviewed by audio). His style of interviewing by asking for the most minute details is effective at adding up these details to give a horrifying portrait of the events of Nazi genocide. He also shows, or rather lets some of his subjects themselves show, that the anti-Semitism that caused 6 million Jews to die in the Holocaust is still alive in well in many people that still live in Germany, Poland, and elsewhere.

actually I was wondering too, then I realized I had this one on my hd and hadn't gotten around to watching it.

2 hrs later (about 20 minutes ago), it has become one of the top 5 most disturbing commercially released films I've seen.

Amusingly I originally stopped watching after 15 minutes because I thought it was a romantic comedy. Boy was I wrong about that one.

All I can say is ouch.
