You all should mention the size of the venue.

9:30 Club holds like around 1000 people...very intimate.

I personally hate "arena" or "stadium" concerts.

VR had the best song with a Patience cover.

I saw VR at the Avalon in Boston, again, very small venue. Weiland was trashed and the show was great despite his rambling in between songs + being 2 hours late to stage :whiste:

3 concerts stand out for:

First time I saw G3 concert with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson

The other was "Weird Al" Yankovic. He puts on one hell of an entertaining show.

BX3 bassists Stuart Hamm, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Berlin. I saw this at Hard rock cafe with only 50 people. I had front table by the stage and watching Billy Sheehan play was mind boggling!

Probably the Metallica-hosted Summer Sanitarium tour. I saw the one in Dallas, when Hetfield was out because of a skiing injury or whatever, but the sheer number of kickass acts made it a blast anyway. I think it was System of a Down, Powerman 5000, Kid Rock, Korn, and of course Metallica. One thing that made that concert a bit special was that all the backup acts came out and took turns filling in for Hetfield either on guitar or singing during Metallica's set.

Second after that would have to be Tool.

One concert that I surprisingly hated was Widespread Panic. I really figured it would be good given their rabid fanbase at the time, but that kind of music just isn't for me I guess.

Springsteen 8/27/99 : seen him several times but this was the best. Broke out "New York City Serenade" and Peter Wolf popped in during the encore.

More recently, saw NIN with Janes Addiction last year. Great double bill.

I saw Hed PE, Spineshank, System of a Down, and Fear Factory at a tiny little theatre in Peoria, IL in '98. This was when SOAD first came on the mainstream scene and most of us had no friggen clue who they were. They came out covered in white pancake makeup and played almost the whole debut album. And Fear Factory played for almost 2 full hours. All in all it was like a 4 hour concert with 900 people going absolutely apeshit. I had my glasses broke. My sister came home with a bloody skull and another friend had a shoulder dislocated.

Good times!

There are a few shows that stand out.

Rush with Primus opening around '92 great show. Any Rush show really....

There was the Chili Peppers/Nirvana/Pearl Jam show in the resonating echo chamber known as the LA Convention center. Just before Pearl and Nirvana really exploded. Pearl sucked but Nirvana was a whole other level of amazing.

The origingal Lalapalooza with Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, NIN, Ice T, Butthole Surfers, In Living Colour, and The Rollins Band. I'm missing someone there I think. Great shows by everone but the Butthole Surfers and NIN were off that day.

1) Radiohead, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in SF, winter 1997-98 (OK Computer tour).
2) The Pogues, some club in NYC in 1988.
3) Stiff Little Fingers reunion show in NYC in about 1989.
4) Butthole Surfers, First Avenue in Minneapolis, 1985 or so.
5) Minutemen (numerous shows), Seventh Street Entry in Minneapolis, 1984-1987.

The latter four are in no particular order and I've probably omitted something that deserves to be there.

Was Joe Strummer with the Pogues then? Great stuff there.

For pure overall entertainment.. Steel Panther put on a great show last month.

However, for pure metal.. Metallica has not disappointed.

John Mellencamp opening for the Kinks in Indianapolis, 1978. The Kinks kicked ass. Mellencamp was pretty good but he was pretty wasted.

Mine are:

Iron Maiden - Any time with Bruce as lead singer. First time I saw IM was at Mc McNichols arena on the "Power Slave" tour. Bruce came out from behind the curtain and said something like: "The MF lead singer of the opening band broke his MF leg during the last show. Iron Maiden will be playing a longer set for you tonight. Up the MF Irons!"

and

RUSH - Any time.
