I'm scared to even start adding up my guitar/instrument,amp, etc...
collection for fear my wife might be looking over my shoulder . I really do need to so it will frighten me into getting a ryder policy to cover them with ins. I've been collecting for over 30yrs and haven't sold many and regret the ones I did

To give an idea, including guitars, bases, fiddles and mandolins I have 26 istruments and most of them are vintage, top of the line or custom shop pieces. I also have a nice older Pearl drum set with a sweet vintage set of Zildgan cymbals that are worth a couple of grand by themselve. I've got a Marshall double stack, a vintage mesa boogie, a modern fender twin, 70's marshal bass amp, and a few other lessor amps.

Some of my guitars. 90's custum shop tele, 40th aniversary custom shop strat, 1970 Gibson SG custom, 1968 Gibon ES355-TDSV, 1996 Martin D-28 custom shop brazillian, 1997 Gibson les paul classic 1960 reissue, 1966 Gibson B-45 12string, 1969 Gibson B-25. Some of the others, Taylor, Ovation, Flatiron F mando. Damn I just named over 20k worth. Including my amps and my Yorkie powered Prootools Mpowered 24 track setup I probably have 40k worth or more I should get some insurance.:$

Actually yes. I guarantee the only lawyer without an expensive toy is the public defender in Podunk, Missouri.

Actually there's also some idiots that go to work for non-profits and NGOs making $30k a year.

Everyone in my peer group that went to law school has toys out the ass. Most of them spend so much time working that they barely get to enjoy them.

I was talking to a friend last night that just put his gtx580 in his htpc because he put his 6990 in his "work" computer because he put a gtx590 in his "gaming" computer. The only game he plays is WoW. He's an unemployed bar certified recent graduate. I assume it pays well.

It's a toss-up between my Dell U3011 screen, AKG K1000 headphone or Electrocompaniet DAC.

Technically my truck since I didn't need it but wanted a truck ($30k). But since it is part necessity... My TV was $1800 (now worth $800) and projector was $1000. This 27" monitor was $950 when I bought it which is more than I paid for the PC & 25" monitor I bought last time

EDIT:

Work from home has a Projects person for a large company. I also have a home based business.

$500 laptop
$500 Glock
$1000 SLR camera/lenses
$1000+ worth of bonsai trees
$2000 car

It appears that my hobbies are fairly cheap compared to others.
Probably close to $1000 worth of SLR equipment.

3 laptops that total cost me around $1600, 2 of them were used.

Other computer equipment including a printer that cost $1300 used (almost new), probably over $3000. It's all old now.

Home theater equipment also around $3000, including DVDs. Also old now.

Golf equipment, maybe $500, mostly bought used.

The bicycle is more necessity than a toy since I use it as my main transportation.

$900 Makerbot 3d printer

I'm about to move out of my apartment and into a house. Hopefully I can start filling up my garage with some fancy tools.

I have been dying to build a laser cutter, build a CNC routing machine, and convert a small milling machine to CNC.

But first I have to build a workbench

I'm fairly excited to move just so that I'll have a garage to tinker around in.

What kind of detail can you get with that thing ( I know what material you use effects this) from your use so far?

Been interested in 3D printing and looking around at places for possibly get something printed from a model I'm working on.

My home theater
Sony 3d tv, Onkyo receiver, PS3, Martin Logan Source speakers for the L&R, Motion 6 for center and Motion 2s for rear and the Dynamo 500 sub.
Probably the best sound system I have ever heard outside of a pro-theater shop set up.
About $5,000 for everything.

Camera stuff.
Nikon D7000, D90, 5 lens and two Alien Bee 800s lights.
$4,000+

If you define a toy as something that you bought/have because you wanted vice needed it and it gives you enjoyment then I'd have to say the Lexus. I fell in love with the design when it first came out but couldn't stomach the price tag (over $50k at that time). I waited patiently until I found one with extremely low miles for well over 80% off.
Well done!
I hear ya on that!

800 dollar skis, 450 for bindings (dynafits), 700 for boots. 120 for climbing skins, another 100 for adjustable poles. Then shovel and probe ~100 bucks and avy beacon for ~350.Clothes wise im cheap. Still have the same helly hansen pants from like 5 years ago that i paid 100 bucks for at end of season. Jacket was only 250 and has kept me plenty warm and dry on summits. Add in basic glacier gear and im right up there with you! Then i've got "rock" skis, skins for those (cheap though..300 for the pair), a pair of marker dukes (paid like 320), and old apline boots that were ~600.

Such an expensive hobby and thats not even including lift tickets/seasons passes. But hey its my main hobby/sport so cant complain to much!
I do the cheap route -- quad skating on the streets. Cost over 20+ years less than $500 and my skates are in great shape ATM. Well, it's more fun than a swing, flying a kite or riding a bike (and much cheaper and easier upkeep). Safer than skiing too, if you stay away from the cars.

I was researching workbenches, going to build one but got lucky and found a discarded desk on the sidewalk one day not far from my house. I managed to get it home and went to work. I extended the legs to make it about 6 inches taller, screwed on a smooth white veneer top sheet, cut to fit, affixed wood and metal vices. It has smooth as silk pull out drawers, and I made a shelf just above the floor where I put my portable power tools. Solid as a rock.
