I think my main problem is that I'll never get used to using a game controller over a mouse and keyboard. I'm hopelessly handicapped that way.
I remember saying that back in '06, now it seems completely natural.

Some games I have to still play on PC though, just because they are better. PC Ghost Recon:AW is one of my all-time favorite SP campaigns, but it sucks on console, BAD.

I played a game called G-Police waaaay back in the day. I remember playing that thing for close to a year, and never being able to get past the last few levels. I was pretty young though; it may not have been that difficult in reality.

Rainbow six: raven shield, single player and trying not to lose anyone. Mostly cause the ai effectively had wall hacks.

Assassins creed with m/KB as the controls are just wonky. Haven't played with a controller yet, but been told its worlds better. Very annoying the first two didn't bother to change the menu to indicate what buttons did what and instead had console buttons.

Serious Sam HD, got to the 'gauntlet' part where about 1000 enemies storm you on a street and gave up. After that found the hacks and finished it up, probably never would have beat it with out hacks.

Try Tourist mode. You slowly regain health up to 200. On the other difficulties your max is only 100 and doesnt regenerate.

I remember G-Police.

I rented that game because it was advertised in the Tomb Rider manual. I was alsio seriously lacking in skills to get anywhere with it.

Tourist difficulty means they're pretty much fighting each other, there's no need for 200 life

One of the most frustrating games ever for me is Wargame: European Escalation

I just cannot figure out any way to flush out well placed infantry in the woods or in towns(worse). There is just no way to detect these fuckers. If I use land recon units, they simply don't see infantry in towns unless they come close, within range of the hidden infantry in which case the recon unit gets owned.

The recon helicopter, when set to high altitude does a slightly better job, but again, often has to come a bit closer, and constantly hover there to spot for arty which is like the only unit that can really effectively kill the hidden infantry squad. I am assuming that a gunship heli would also be able to do the job, but again a recon heli would be also needed to spot for it which is just too much work overall.

In the last mission, just TWO small AT infantry squads were able to hold my heavy tank advance for a very long time, frustrating me beyond belief.

Also, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights was extremely frustrating for me.

I am curious why these games were frustrating for you. What aspects?

On my end, another really frustrating game for me was Outpost.
"Commander, the Colonists HATE you".

The 7th Guest's microscope puzzle. I never ended up beating it without going to the library.

What library? Besides that game was optional in the original release.

However, as an 8 year old at the time I beat that whole game solo, including that microscope game.

Want to know how I figured it out? I let the computer beat itself .

Now how did I do that? Simple. I made a move and watched what the computer did. I would then restart the game and make the move the computer did as a response to my move. I did the over and over and over. I wrote down every "response" the computer would make to a move it would make previously. After about 50 moves it was easy to see how to beat it from there.

As for the most frustrating game? This is one game I never beat or could beat. None of my friends could and I knew of no one that had ever beaten the game.

Bayou Billy for the NES.

3 lives, 1 continue, and no cheats. 30 something levels and basically a few hits and your dead. So when the screen is filled with shit to hit you and you die almost immediately, it was a major pain in the ass. I ended up making it to the final level, only person I ever knew that could, and never could get past about 50 guys on the screen at once firing guns, swinging balls on chains, and having only 4 places to step due to spike traps. Not to mention the HORRILE lag in the controls and animations. It was fucking impossible to beat.

There's just so many console games that drove me nuts. Spelunker is one that I don't hear mentioned much that I had. I got to level 3 one time even though I owned the game. I usually died on level 1.

On the PC though, Arx Fatalis. Its actually a cool game, but without a walk through I never would have had any idea what to do. The characters just wouldn't give you any direction and the world was actually pretty large so its not like trial and error was a good plan. And even with a walk through the game was hard as fuck sometimes. I remember there is a section where you're in the lowest reaches of the world and a werewolf thing is stalking you. The walkthrough said to jump a gap over some lava. The jump COULD NOT be made. It was just to far. And you had a limited amount of time to make it as you were being hunted so it was always done in a panic. I ended up stacking several gold bars from my inventory to build up a ramp to give my jump a boost and even then I barely made it.. It was gold well spent but I don't think it was suppose to work like that.

If I recall correctly, the problems with jumping in Arx Fatalis were actually a resolution bug; drop your screen resolution down to 640x480 and it is pretty easy.

Swat 3 & 4 had a few missions I had big time trouble with. 4 had 1 that especially I never thought I would beat. That game could be so much harder than most others imho because of the realism and fact everything was dynamic. So you couldn't simply play a mission over and over until you memorized it. The one that almost made me break my PC a hundred different times was in a lab building and you had to rescue a doctor and find a brief case. I think it literally took me about 200 attempts to beat it. It took 2 years and during that time I think I un/reinstalled the game about 5 times out of frustration. There must had been 90 times I was clearing 1 room away from beating it when a terrorist decided to off a hostage, or me or one of my dudes accidently shot a hostage lol. And then you restart to basically the same level but nothing plays out the same. That level was the last in the game, and it wasn't a story driven game so when I beat it, it just ended and that was the game. The funny thing is I felt so happy and accomplished that I finally beat the level I didn't even care there was no uber bad ass CGI ending. I should reinstall it and see if I could beat that level again lol.

With that said I would 100% buy a Swat 5 and even if it was every bit as frustrating as 3 & 4. I would play the shit out of it.

Thexder. That game was seriously frustrating due to lack of continues and only one life. It was also pretty boring. I was young so it seemed hard at the time. I hated having to start at the beginning after dying.

Ghosts and Goblins for NES. I eventually finished it, all the way through TWICE which is what is needed to properly beat it. (The second time through you have to use the crappiest weapon ever.)

Also, trying to beat Ninja Gaiden 3 for NES without dying.

TMNT for NES

That was a tough game, but once you got the timing down and could navigate in the water it became doable. Same with Mike Tyson.

I am surprised that Another World is considered so hard. While I don't remember how difficult it was, I do know that I was able to beat it in a weekend after renting it. I probably used a Nintendo Power guide to help me though, since I think that guide was what made me think the game looked cool enough to rent in the first place. What was so tough about that particular game?

Did anyone beat Battle Toads? I always wanted to play it, but I have heard it is nearly impossible.

My cousin beat battletoads. It is nearly impossible. I mentioned it in one of my previous posts. And yeah I forgot about the damn electric seaweed in TNMT. That game was a pain. But it still wasn't a Ghosts and Goblins or Silver Surfer.....

Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Played on PC with mouse and keyboard. Terrible camera angles, no save game option, and Daaka chase too much to handle. Only game I gave up on. Did play POP SOT with no problem, though SOT had the same issues (but no Daaka chases).

The last level of UN Squadron is pretty rough. GTA4 is annoying me now because it seems to be dragging on and driving with the keyboard is kind of annoying. That and its horrible performance.

I absolutely loved the Dahaka chases, and once you get used to the camera angles, the game is fun. I still think it is one of the best POPs till date. Mysterious, dark and difficult. Just how i like my games to be.

And dont tell me you didnt like the Godsmack music kicking in when the Dahaka starts chasing you.

There was a library room in the house and on a coffee table was a book. Click on the book and it gave you a hint for the puzzle you were working on. On the third hint, the game solved the puzzle for you so you could see the cutscene for that puzzle.

As for your solution, there is no way that I would have the patience to go through all of that.

That would certainly make sense, I ran the game at 1024x768 as I played it awhile after it came out. It is hard to imagine that game breaking bug never being fixed though.

TMNT for NES

There's a pretty good AVGN on this game. The game is actually kind of shitty in addition to having some sadistic game design decisions. Definitely way worse than those turtles arcade game ones which were a ton of fun.
