Actually there have been some requests on the forums for a board like this, now I will know where to point people who have especially important ISA cards.

optimistic, are you implying that XP doesn't support ISA cards? That's odd, I haven't heard that.

Why?

I have an old SS7 board running winXP with an SB AWE 64 sound card and an ISA SCSI card for a scanner. Everything works just fine.

yeah XP supports ISA but the ACPI function will be turned off due to ISA devices not supported

Are you saying my Epox G-M board, which supports ACPI fully, will not have ACPI enabled because of winXP and my sound card?

Hmmm. That's why all my power managment works correctly, i guess. It even does the auto shutdown like it should. It even says in device manager ACPI instead of standard PC.

Same with my Iwill KK266. It has an ISA slot with the same type sound card.

I don't understand what you are saying.

whats the point of using ISA? Everything that works on ISA is found better on PCI or onboard.

I find those Aopen boards with Tubes a lot more idiotic than isa slots.

I'm with you on that one. Notice how many other manufacturers are stampeeding to kick out similar boards? (.....listens to the sound of crickets.......)

but if you already have it and it works why would you want to buy a new one? Also, if its on ISA then your not neccessarily going to find one that works better on PCI. Aslong as what you have fits your needs. If its on ISA then it doesn't really need to be on PCI to work well.

That's good to know. I was always under the impression that WinXP did not support ISA. But then again, I am usually wrong.

Well for one, I don't know of any PCI radio cards that handle both AM and FM. If any of you do, please let me know . Also if you ever want to make a custom add-on card for a project or something, it is much easier to use ISA. PCI practically requires big machines to make the cards for you.

This is also a huge reason I want serial and parallel ports to stay. They are *much* easier to program and make stuff for than, say, USB. Those older ports and buses are great learning tools as well as still being the only way to hook up a few things to your PC.

Aboroth- Many of the new tv tuners come with am/fm tuning built in, such as the msi and leadtek i believe. I dunno, search around and you'll find one. You have a point though man, maybe its not the most idiotic motherboard, but i made the most idiotic thread. O well at least I got some new news out. BTW has anyone heard anything aobut these soyo PE boards?

lol, what are you talking about? That's a badass motherboard. I might have to get one.

Personally, I think ISA died an untimely death. I still have several good ISA hardware modems I'd like to use but I can't. It'd be nice if most mobos still had one ISA slot.

Obviously none of you guys do embedded programming either. Our company needs at least 1 ISA for the boards we use for that... And we use other boards that are ISA to handle some other things too. There are definitely times when legacy support is crucial. In truth those devices could be made into PCI...but when you plunge a ton of money into something like this, ie. large corporations, you dont turn back because you cant find adequate mobo's that have an ISA slot...so I praise a company for continuing to support old technology. It might be old, might be outdated, but i isnt always out of use. Hell, look at Cobol.

Thats probably the primary reason I'll need such a motherboard. ISA modems are still hardware compared to the mostly PCI winmodems.

Not all computers are used in a home/office environment. I work in a laboratory and a lot of instuments interface to a PC by a proprietary ISA card. I would imagine that this type of situation is not limited to laboratory equipment either.

The VLbus also had options for 50mhz (one card only) and they were supposed to have 66mhz later on. But boy, VLbus cards are a pain in the a** to install/uninstall. How about bringing back the EISA and MCA bus?

Hey great thanks for the heads up! You don't know how difficult it is to find a mobo with ISA slots, much less 3 of them. We use them on Buskro direct addressing printers, the printing heads require Jet boards which must have ISA slots. The Jet boards kind of look like a Voodoo 6000 card if you have ever seen one.
