the conflict AMD-Nvidia it s something we can openly talk.
it s not a taboo argument, there is no social problem about it

i was wondering: why am i a nvidia fan?

- i have about 15 Ati-AMD cards
- i have only 3 nvidia cards (had more older)
- nvidia never surprised me in a good way
- AMD disappointed me many times with driver problems (recently )

(i m only talking about gaming pcs)

probably i m a nvidia fan thanks to amd

The driver nonsense is just brand perception, really. Case in point, haven't there been quite a few NVidia drivers that have killed GPUs? AMD has only had one or two of those.

I'm using a AMD atm on my main, have used both many times over the decades.

It is still a topic that has been rehashed frequently. Starting a fanboi thread about one or the other is far from original.

This seems pointless..why are there so many nike, rebok, or vans fans? Just that people prefer one brand over the other.

Having used both nvidia and amd I've never really had driver issues or crashes. People buy what they like/what their friends recommend.

It depends on what issues you had. Long ago, when i switched from an AMD gpu to a much faster NVidia gpu, i noticed that when playing Unreal Tournament(DX7) at the time, that 6600GT i had, had issues with properly displaying the textures in levels. Sometimes textures would not be rendered at all or wrongly. I tried different drivers but to no prevail. Especially not rendering objects that are far away properly. As if they were culled depending if i moved around a bit.
As it turned out, there were hardly any ut server available anymore and less players. So i moved on to newer games(DX8 and DX9) and had never any issues there. No ill will against Nvidia.

I am in the market for a new gpu card. I could go for the GTX1060, but i strongly have the gut feeling that a third party version of the RX480 is better suited to my needs when looking long term. And i do so because an AMD based card is very similar to what the consoles have when it comes to gpu capabilities.
And since game developers want a large customer base and game engine development that is as low in cost as possible, i think that buying an AMD gcn architecture based GPU is also for this reason a much better investment in the long term.

Hence, no GTX1060 for me. But an third party RX480. (probably Gigabyte, since i am very pleased with their hardware) But my end decision depends on the what the reviewers will show me when the cards are available.

sure, probably was just luck/bad luck, i talk only of my limited experience and it s just what i m asking from the others.
never had 1 problem with nvidia drivers. just my case.
i had many driver problems with Microsoft and i prefer apple (never 1 problem in 18y) , could be the same here

I have come to heavily favor Nvidia due to their superior long-term support for its older series. I keep using my older cards in other PCs and it's great to have proper support for the latest Windows and such.

It's strange I know, but I haven't had any issues with drivers on Nvidia or AMD in the past three to four years. I had an issue with my older SLI and crossfire setup, but that's about it.

I play mainly AAA games, including many MMO's and RTS titles. Am I missing something here? I don't understand why people have so many issues on either side. Maybe it's because I don't tweak every little damn setting?

I preferred Nvidia up till the 8800 series and have mainly been running with AMD. I did have a 9800 pro though from ATI.

i had nvidia 6800 but also a radon 9800pro and x800, all great cards!

seems that you atm don t prefer nvidia, what you say it s 100% true but i was simply asking to the nvidia fanbase, why they prefer nvidia

It's the answer you are phishing for, still does not make the thread relevant.

i hope in more nvidia fans with their own opinions.

having preference in the gpu world is something good, subjective and interesting

(this both for amd and nvidia, but i already know why many pple prefer amd, so i m not asking)

The weird thing is lately I've been hearing people say lately nvidia is not so good at long term support for their older cards. I guess this also depends how long you plan on keeping it. Then again as I never had issues I probably wouldn't notice.

Answer to your thread title question.

The professional AMD bashers drive more customers towards Nvidia than AMD's incompetence.

Every launch it's open season on AMD. Every little issue is overblown and hyped seems to be the norm in recent years.

Anybody who's looking for a gpu and does research before buying will be bombarded by silly postings, articles, and reviews painting AMD in a bad light.

Currently have GTX 1070.
