Most overclockable Athlon motherboard

FIRST: I did a search on this and couldn't any posts on this. I was surprised.

Ok, what is the most overclockable Athlon motherboard? First off, I would like to know which one can hit the highest FSB. Second, I would like to know which motherboard generally wins the benchmarks when overclocked.

The Abit KR7A is probably your best bet here. It's the fastest Athlon mobo off the bat (I think..?) and I've heard it overclocks extremely well. However, I've also heard that the Iwill XP333 hits FSB's of 200MHz.. same with a few AMD 761 boards. Honestly, I think you should go with the KR7A unless you really want crazy FSBs like 200MHz.

Abit KR7A! It's a sweet board. Excellent manual explains nearly every bios setting, including the highly tweakable memory settings. It has no sound--a good thing as most on board sound solutions are marginal at best...

Hmm, i've seen the benches of shuttle ak35 and i believe they were faster than the kr7. I could be wrong. Guess I juss gotta wait til it comes out.

the asus a7v266-e wins almost all the benchmarks and runs real stable but a lot of people talk about the epox EP-8KHA+ and i have seen that one make it over 200 fsb with athlons clocked at over 2ghz but the fact that there is no 1/6 pci divider with the kt266a chipset makes me mad at all these

The Epox 8KHA+, Abit KR7A, and the Iwill XP333 are all awesome overclocking boards. The Iwill has 1/5 and 1/6 PCI dividers and will run 166 FSB guranteed as long as your memory and cpu can do 166FSB. They are all awesome boards, just depends on how much you want do spend and what features you want.

remember the above boards are only good for Overclocking for Athlon XP's if you own a regular Athlon those boards will not be the best for you. As I have read ALL KT266A boards go no higher than 1.85 volts for the CPU Vcore which is a far cry from 2.0 volts where the T-birds do their best work (granted you have proper cooling.)

If you have an Athlon XP shoot away these are all fine boards. I myself am interested in the AK-35GT coming out in a week or possibly the new soltek "Purple Ray" board.

It seems that the Abit Kr7a-Raid is a good overclocker which is fast, but more over the Epox seems to be a better overclocker with some people getting the 8k7a or the 8kha+ having a fsb of over 200Mhz!! You can check it out here Athlon XP Overclocking Database

Now mind you that most are using dry ice, water and other cooling to achieve this but they are getting insane speeds over 2Ghz. Look at page 2 and you will see that they also have air cooled machines too.

I like the looks of the Soltek board myself and it has beaten Epox in the benches, but that's not when overclocking is involved(even though it overclocks well, just not as well as the Epox).

The best for overclocking??? The EPoX 8K7A because of reliable jumper settings and 2.10 v-core for the CPU. Best in performance...8KHA+ Though I think that the all new EPoX 8KHA2 will top that. (hasn't been released yet)
