Inspired by the "most underrated game of the year" thread, I'm curious which game you spent the most time with this year. So in order to make this thread a little more interesting lets:

1) List your game.
2) Detail why you spent so much time with it.
3) Runner-up.

I'll start things off...

The game I spent the most time with this year is Mass Effect. That's right--a 2007 game is my most played game of the year. I beat it twice (back-to-back playthroughs) on the console and they twice on the PC. I just cannot get enough of this game.

- I love how the conversation system keeps you interested in what's going to be said and is also compeltely skipable the entire length of the game (sans a few in-game cutscenes).

- Obviously the combination of the class systems and the Paragon or Renegade allow many different paths to take. Playing as a Vanguard is like playing as a god if you play your cards right.

- The most underrated part of the game--the score! I LOVE the music in this game. It's so contemporary-Blade-Runner and enjoyable I actually got the soundtrack for it and have it on my iPod!

- Though limited in scope, I love the exploration in the game in the space flight areas. being able to examine and "explore" planets just gives me astronomy boner.

Runner-up: Pixel Junk Mosters

1) Persona 3 FES.
2) It is the _greatest game ever created_.
3) Fallout 3.

Kind of. I'm having difficulty believing it could be better than Persona 3 FES. That was the _greatest game ever created_. Then again, I have hope, so I pre-ordered it anyways - speaking of which, I think Amazon just shipped it.

1) Forza 2
2) Because it's the best console racing simulation game (until GT5 comes out in 2017) and our ATCG Forza Night group keeps the action fun and fresh.
3) Rock Band 2 - If you combine RB1/RB2, I spent more time with them than anything else.

To echo Warcrow, I played through Mass Effect 3.5 times, but those were all in 2007. It's far better than any 2008 game I've played so far, but I do have Fallout 3 and Fable 2 on the way for Christmas.

Rockband1/2 & Guitar Hero 3
Fallout 3

So many games I want to play through again - doubt my wife wants me to kick her off the big screen though.

I have no idea, mine might actually be Mass Effect as well. I did a few more playthroughs earlier this year for achievements and to play the Bring Down the Sky DLC. It also could be COD4, GTAIV, or even Burnout Paradise. I wish I could easily see how much time I've spent with each.

This has been another great year for gaming, but I don't think I've enjoyed any of my games quite as much as I enjoyed Mass Effect. Then again, I haven't played Fallout 3 yet.

CoD4 is easy - you can see your multiplayer time when you go to the barracks. I tack on about 6 hours for SP because I always replay the AC-130 mission

WoW unfortunately..

on a better note its either between GTA4 or Burnout Paradise
Burnout because it was so much fun, I wanted to beat all the races.
GTA just takes long to play because of all the run around

Yeah, it's relatively simple for all of the games I mentioned, but I'm not going to take the time to change discs and boot up each game just to see how long I've played them. What I really meant is I wish my Xbox or Xbox.com would keep track of this information for me so I could look it up easily.

1. Burnout Paradise
2. Learning the routes took awhile. Then did 101%. Was into ranked racing, then save data got corrupted. Did 101% again, then 102%. Then redid for Platinum trophy. This is probably the only game I played online on a console with any regularity, probably cause I added some people from playing it and it became a regular thing. I played online so much it didnt even register on the stats page...was stuck at maximum.
T3. GTA4 - Not because I liked it all that much, it just took so damn long to finish. Havent been back to it at all.
T3. HSG5 - I did level 12 on 3 characters on the Asia version, then did level 12 on 6 characters on US. Did a little online, but its a great game that you can just pick up and play at odd times.

Probably did more HSG5 then GTA4. GTA4 felt like it took years to finish but was probably like 30-40 hours. Been playing HGS5 for like 2 years.

I have a tie ...

1. Burnout Paradise (Xbox360) or Hot Shots Golf: Out Of Bounds (PS3)
2. They are both like video-game crack.
3. Don't really have one that was even close to both of those.

Well, things are looks quite good: Metacritic

And to keep this on topic, here's another vote for Hot Shots Golf 5:

1. Hot Shots Golf 5
2. Just a great game that you can pick up and play any time. I often play it when friends are over.
3. Not sure really. Maybe Warhawk? I played that a lot earlier in the year, but not much recently. But almost every other game I've played this year have been once through type of games for me.

Console: Resistance (played through single player campaign in COOP with a few friends)
PC: Probably Civilization IV (awesome playability, I really liked SMAC and Civ 2, this is the next best thing)

1. Devil May Cry 4
2. Because it has a gazillion difficulty levels and it's fun playing through each of them and the palace and because the game is akin to a game like Pac-Man, the content is not what makes the game but the actual gameplay and getting better at it.
3. Ace Attorney I guess.

1) Titan Quest (Gold edition)
2) I think I spent a good three months on this game. Hundreds, if not thousands of unique items. 9 different classes, and you can dual-class, so there are something like 30 different class combinations, each with their own upsides and downsides. Good official forum with lots of help available and community mod projects. Just a lot of replay value, once you get past the boring Normal difficulty level.
3) TF2

Damn, I just realized that I'm Console Gaming, not PC Gaming . Well in that case:

1) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
2) It's a Pokemon style game (but less cutesy), so yeah...doesn't take a genius to figure out why I might have spend so much time on it.
3) CV: OoE (gotta get 100% completion for everything)

over 85 hours so far in saints row 2
well over 300 hours in rockband 2
well over 100 hours in COD4

Actually, if all I had were these 3 games I would be happy for a long time, especially RB2 and COD4 online.

I probably also fall victim to having CoD 4 suck all my time away. That is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played, I need to go back and play it some more. And I only went through Prestige twice (or so)...

Runner up would probably be either The Orange Box or, amazingly, Diablo 2.

1. Halo 3
2. The multiplayer is just so much fun
3. CoD 4. We usually start on Halo 3 and switch to CoD 4 if the cards aren't falling our way.
