I remember him! He returned a Marino pass for a touchdown! I remember that game from years ago lol. He was good. I was rooting for the dolphins though.

would have been cool to see what he was capable of.

yup.

also gale sayers as one of the most famous.

Jr is not a good example as he is still playing and playing well i might add.

what about Ted Williams and his service in the wars?

sh1t happens but Jr is still healthy and still playing so he doesn't count.

he doesn't rank with the Gale Sayers or Bo Jacksons or Len Bias's of the world.

oh ya, here is someone that hasn't been mentioned yet and he was a FREAKY FREAKY BBALL PLAYER.

ROY TARPLEY.

he had Hakeem type skills but couldn't stay away from the drugs.

he had talent tho.

drugs are his own fault, not an injury.

I used to love listening to him call Indians games

len bias was mentioned more than a few times in this thread, don't see how tarpley is any different.

Bo Jackson

But also Grant Hill, it really pains me to think what he could have been capable of without all those injury problems.

Doh! My bad. Still, that guy had at least another 10 years in him and would have gone down as one of the best pure hitters in the game.

Harry Agganis

http://webpages.charter.net/joekuras/agganis.htm

This guy is truely a sad story.

Harry Agganis was born in Lynn, Mass. April 30, 1930, and died at Sancta Maria Hospital in Cambridge June 27, 1955. He was the Red Sox first baseman when he died, but he was a star football player, and his biography is mostly a football story. It was written by two Greek-Americans, working from a voluminous scrapbook kept by Harrys sister Mary, and from interviews with people who knew him....

I probably should have edited my post anyways.

Since I'm in NYC I'll mention Don Mattingly. His back issues halted a potential HOF career. He had a couple of great years in the 80's then his back problems started cropping up. Even though I'm a huge Mets fan I always liked Mattingly and that fine swing of his. In fact the 80's were great when it came to NYC first basemen with Mattingly on the Yanks and Keith Hernandez on the Mets.

First person comes to mind is of course Bo Jackson.
Only 1 person mentioned Monica Sele and she was the most dominating tennis player until that guy stabed her.
I think shes still a HOF tennis player but she would have been Stefi Graf great.

I can't believe no one mentioned Anfernee Hardaway.
This guy was mentioned in the breath on MJ.
He and Shaq was the Kobe and Shaq before Shaq defected.
Even after Shaq left he was able to lead the Magic for a while(remembered he dropped 2 40+ pts against the Heat in the playoff ??)

After the Magic traded traded him to the Suns, he injured his knees and was never the same.
Remembered the Lil Penny mania ??
