Most quiet Core 2 Heatsink fan?

I'm looking for something cheap and quiet. I hear the stock fans can be a bit noisy. What do you guys recommend?

Yate loons are supposed to be good and cheap, although I've never used them myself. I've used Panaflo low flow fans, but they are not cheap (for fans anyway.)

Edit: Just use the stock heatsink and put a new fan on it. If you are not OCing, it should be no problem.

As far as I know, the Scythe Ninja works better than other heatsinks when paired with lower CFM (quieter) fans. Whether or not it is the absolute best for quiet computing, it's at least in the discussion. Whether or not you consider $40 cheap is another matter.

If you don't OC, you can probably get by with passive cooling. Especially for E6300/E6400.

Completely true.

Get a nice cooler like the TT Sonic Tower or Thermalright Ultra 120 (both come w/o fans), run Speedstep or undervolt the CPU, & a few nice 120mm case fans like the Noctuas, Scythe S-Flex, or Nexus 120s.

I have found that at about 1300rpm most 120mm fans are silent.

At stock the fan on the Tt Big Typhoon runs at 1300rpm and is silent to my ears.

Another vote for the Big Typhoon. Very quiet and very effective with the stock fan.

Yeah, Scythe Ninja owns! But Tuniq Tower is even better!
