Epox has a good 250gb board for only $99

I have not heard many problems from the Athlon64 boards for the most part. Of course with the mem controller on the cpu I guess that does not hurt.

Take a look at the Asrock K8S8X. I've been using it for several months now, and it has been pretty much troublefree thus far. It only has room for two memory modules and one of the power connectors is in a slightly awkward position, but given its modest price I can live with that.

I've also used the K7S8X from Asrock for three other computers, and I'm yet to encounter any problems (as opposed to the other discount brands I've tried, especially ECS).

Asrock K8S8X is a good one, it does have some OC options. This board also works with the DTR and mobile cpus......nice bonus
Works right out of the box no problems with mine.

ASRock K8S8X hands down. Alternatively the Asus K8N-E Deluxe. Those are the only two choices you should consider.

I'm running an ECS SIS755 with a A64~3400+. No problems here . Quick and reliable so far.

Have there actually been stability issues since the KT266A for the Athlon XP? I remember way back when where where it would seem as if motherboard reviews would make a big deal out of stability of the board even moreso than they'd focus on overclocking and tweaking options. Ever since then it seems as if all decently popular boards have been highly reliable and stable with issues only coming if you OCd or tweaked around with anything.

a review on newegg the person said it was harder to put the comp together than the neo platinum was

i dont no if any truth to that because this will be my very first build

I have the asus board except its the K8V not K8N on the VIA chip instead of the nForce. The VIA chip runs a little faster than the nForce from what i have seen in benchmarks, but the diff is minimal so its a matter of preference.

I have used several board for the skt 754 and most of them are good. I have used 2 MSI neo Plat and the first one was a little tricky to work with but with a later bios it ran great and that is why I decided to get a second one wich ran great since the beginig (I just sold it) Another great option is the Chaintec VNF3-250 ( I have used 4 without problems at all) but you do not want to oc but it is pretty cheap. MSI NFSR simple via chipset no much oc but has been a really stable board for the last 6 months. Like most people have said the Asrock K8S8X is a great stable board but too simple for my taste. From all the boards that I have tried i would go for the Asrock first, then the chaintec and then the MSI neo FSR. I would also consider a used Neo Platinum (better chance of getting one that has been tested to work) Features wise the Neo platinum is the best followed by the chaintec.

BTW if you are looking for one Asrock board here is one for sale:

I have the K8N-E, it's great at stock, sucks for overclocking with Sata drives though.

I have the ASUS K8N-E Deluxe as well. Stability is great, features are great and OC capabilities are great for my needs (I don't need or want extreme voltages or FSB).

It's true, I don't even look for "stability" in a review anymore... all boards are stable unless they are defective and /or incompatible with something else like RAM.

I haven't had a problem with any boards in recent years except a defective EPOX.

everything else has been 100% stable with no unexplainable crashing.
