Linkin Park.

They are the best band out today. In a few years all the naysayers will be proven wrong when it is clearer how LP revolutionized music.

I'm waiting for the LP Behind the Music. "Linkin Park were on top of the world in 2003, then it all came crashing down."

I predict that all "rock" bands with a DJ & turntable will be mocked and laughed at in 10 years, as 80's hair bands are today.

Dragonforce (UK melodic speed metal band, almost a Hammerfall/Helloween cross, had 1 album, released this year).

This thread seems to have moved towards metal and stuff.

I've heard of (and my brother has albums by) Deltron 3030, Opeth, Emperor, Paradise Lost. I wouldn't way they're that overlooked.

Doh, I almost forgot about Sinch. They've had one song on the radio to my knowledge.

Opeth: I am sure by now, some, if not many of you, have heard Opeth before. They are, IMO the greatest band that has ever been. They started off as a Melodic Death Metal band, but now play progressive metal. Even though their style has completely changed, they are still very good. The Vocalist & Guitarrist Mikael Akerfeldt, Has also been involved in other great bands/side Projects Bloodbath, Katatonia, and Edge of Sanity. Even if you don't like metal, you should give Opeth a listen. They are not like other bands.

Isacaarum: Only a few people I know have actually heard them and they are so damn good. They are a Death/Grind band with a lot of potential.

Silent Stream of Godless Elegy: They are totally unique, No other band sounds anything Like them. They have been around for quite some time, and almost nobody I know had even heard of them (before they knew me at least). I can not classify them in a specific Genre. The music is very melodic. They use many instruments that are usually not found in metal. (ie Viola and Cello)

Abigor: Not only are these guys extremely extremely heavy, but they actually know how to play their instruments quite well too. IMO they are the greatest Harmonic Black Metal band around.

Haggard: This band is what happens if you mix classical with Metal. The band has about 20 members and they play a massive variety of instruments. Everything is pieced together greatly and the band just sounds friggin awesome.

and Most Underrated New/Recent Band; The Black Dahlia Murder: I first heard these guys a couple weeks ago, they play death metal the way it is supposed to be played. The drummer is quite skilled and nails everything perfectly. They don't do anything fancy or overly complicated, howeverl they play very very good. They play Technical Death Metal the way it ought to be played.
Hmm..

What do you think of Iced Earth? Blind Guardian?

while mainstream, i can't say enough good things about the band Garbage. I know alot of their singles hit the radio stations, but it doesn't get the attention or airplay it deserves. what's funny is that the drummer's accomplishments outside of Garbage are easily greater than his work in the band.

One of my favorite bands. Most people I know have only heard of them because of me (my AIM name includes both Skinnee and J in it).

They've had success, but Sevendust is a LOT better than I think a lot of people realize.
Don't hear a lot about Guster, but they're awesome.

I  the cardigans. I'm sad that their new album wasn't released in the states.

Thank goodness for friends in Ireland who will swap imports. Now I don't have to pay 30 bucks to get it from amazon.

nod to Opeth and Apocalyptica. My picks would be:

Zao (super-heavy metalcore. The vocalist, Dan Weyandt, has the most incredible voice ever. he sounds like a demon, or as one reviewer put it, a giant lizard)

Extol (super-heavy death metal. These guys are cool because they're really heavy, and again, have the most frightening vocals ever, yet they, like Zao, are a Christian band. And I'm not even Christian, so that tells you just how great these two bands are)

From Autumn to Ashes (like Zao, they are a cross between hardcore and metal, but not as heavy as Zao. Lean towards emo at times, but can deliver crushingly brutal riffs and drumming. Great musicianship and songwriting.)

Arch Enemy (I just discovered these guys (and gal) and I am completely blown away. Angela Gossow has an incredible voice, and musically they're just incredible. So brutal...)
