What are some of the underrated PC games in your collection? I fired up a game of Medal of Honor Airborne today and played the first few levels in the campaign - this game, IMO, was seriously underrated by the critics and the public. It's one of the most fun and atmospheric FPS games available. Turn up the 5.1 audio, turn out the lights and enjoy the show. It has great graphics and the audio is some of the best in the business. I don't understand why this game was so harshly criticised by so many people.

I'm playing Titan Quest right now. With all the hype that Diablo 2 got and the fact (IMO) that Titan Quest improves upon Diablo 2, I'm surprised that it's not uber-rated. I don't play it any more, but I thought Star Wars Pod Racer was a good, yet underrated, game.

I would have to say The Witcher. A lot of people don't like the combat for some reason but I found the overall package amazing.

 TQ Gold is $5 at Direct2Drive right now, it runs great on my XP gaming system.

Fallout Tactics was a bit underrated by people expecting a real RPG instead of a strategy game with RPG elements. It's under $10 at gog.com. In terms of "fun-ness" I'd rate them Jagged Alliance 2 > FO:T > Silent Storm.

Ghost Master, an original and entertaining puzzle game.

Vampire the Masquerade: Blood, a great game that got completely overlooked since it came out at the same time as Half-life 2.

No One Lives Forever 2, the series wasn't as popular as it should have been.

Oni.

Great mix of exploration/story and martial arts.

Still can't find a modern game quite like it.

It got a bunch of good reviews but I just couldn't get over the horrible over the shoulder combat system. They should go to Bioware for lessons on this.

Press F1 for isometric combat, F2 for a lower angle isometric.

To the OP:

MOHAA has a 91 metacritic rating, got many GOTY and 100% perfect review scores and sold something like 4-5million copies. It's a good game but not underrated.

It got 78% of Metacritic (73 on Xbox 360) with a user score of 67% and as far as I know didn't get any GOTY awards. It came out at a time when a lot of good FPS games were being released, and people were tired of WWII.

Critically it did OK, but was not a huge success. It didn't really get very much attention from the public. I'm not sure how well it sold, but I don't think it was that huge of a hit.

edit: Are you talking about Medal of Honor Allied Assault?

Totally agree with both of these.

I will also give a vote for Titan Quest... very fun game with great graphics.

That there has been no 'No one lives forever 3' is one of my greatest gaming disappointments... NOLF 1 and 2 were absolutely fantastic games filled with clever levels, interesting challenges, fun weapons of all sorts, and lots of good humor. Game play and overall story line were also top notch.

I heard if was pretty buggy. I personally wouldn't know too much about it because I couldn't get out of the first screen without crashing. I'll just assume it was a software conflict on my end.

Beyond Good & Evil. It's a shame more people didn't pick this up, otherwise there probably would have been a playable sequel long ago.

Terra Nova and Outlaws were both very good, I'm surprised that they weren't bigger back then, especially Terra Nova.

the closest that comes to Oni was Mirror's Edge imo. I had flashbacks of Oni when i was trying to pull off certain moves in ME.

I wouldnt call Titan Quest underrated. Plenty of people talk about it. But the talk is usually really good or really bad. Theres no middle of the road for that one.

Pod Racer was awesome in its time, but doesnt work too well on modern systems so people forgot about it. I'd love to see a redux version someday.

As for my recommendations: I still play Act of War a lot. Its an excellent Rock-paper-scissors balance but was overshadowed by titles with more hype, like Warcraft 3.

Age of Mythology was darn good, but not many people liked it. Shame. Thats another one that was either really loved or seriously hated. Very few people in between.

Test Drive Unlimited is one of the best, probably THE best, sandbox racing games around. Shame its not more popular on the computer.

Septerra Core. Fairly original RPG that almost no one knows about. Same for Anacronox.

No One Lives Forever 2. Awesome game that didnt get nearly enough love or attention. Overshadowed by Tron 2.0 and Aliens Vs Predator 2.

Disciples 2. Turn-based games havent been popular for a long time, but the Disciples series is beautiful and dark and awesome fun. D3 should bring some attention back to them soon.

I'll post more later, but my current fave is Act of War.

I agree with the op re: Medal/Airborne.
I just got it working on Vista64 with rig in sig.
I had originally played through it on a P4 with a 7600GT agp and it was not very fluid but I loved it.
This time however it's fantastic with a GT260 and an i7-920. It was underated when it was first released. It's had at least two very large patches, over a gig each I think.
It's kind of a pain to get it to work in 64bit. Steam sys requirements even say it's not for 64 bit.
You have to install the original physx drivers to get it to install. Later you can install the latest nvidia divers with new physx drivers but to complete the game's install, from the cd anyway you have to use the cd's physicx drivers.
Graphics are very good even today. Green smoke for a safe LZ and ammo stashes!
Weapon upgrades are cool too.

It's funny how some games got overshadowed by others and now the underdogs are looking pretty good now, especially when so many new games just aren't as good as their hype.

I loved Pod Racer too. Still have the cd.

i'm probably in the minority, but my choices would be star wars: rebellion and tropico 2: pirate's cove, 2 games most people didn't particularly like. these 2 games i still played up until recently. might install em again in fact.
