Disciples 2, hands down one of the best games ever made. Such an epic story (if you do all the campaigns), with fantastic artwork and sound.

For me: Killed my system.
I already had about 3-4 other games with invasive DRM on my computer, but it was running fine. When I installed DMMM, it finally couldnt handle any more and broke. None of my disc games would run properly. And the ones with invasive DRM wouldnt even appear in Explorer.
After reformatting my system I was too afraid to try installing it again.
Big fat waste of 50 bucks.

As for everyone else: I believe it was the constricted world and limited character development. Not saying that sandbox RPG's like The Elder Scrolls are super awesome of anything, but after playing those for a while, Dark Messiah felt a little meh.

Have you tried activating the game in Steam? I got a boxed copy as well, but I activated mine through Steam. Worked fine for me. No third party DRM listed in the Setam store.

The game was linear, I will admit that. But as far as the limited character development, it's not a straight up RPG, it's just a first person melee game with some RPG elements. Did the game really deserve the 4.0 it was given by many publications? Hell, it even had a kick key!

Vampire the Masquerade: Blood, a great game that got completely overlooked since it came out at the same time as Half-life 2.

No One Lives Forever 2, the series wasn't as popular as it should have been.

I recently finished playing Bloodlines for the first time last month. Great game! However, the reason it was overlooked was because, even though it used the HL2 engine, it was released before HL2, showing you how fast the game was thrown together. The community has been throwing together unofficial patches ever since. The 1.6 patch was released recently.

If you patch it, you should have a much more fun time with the game.

I loved it. In fact, it was one of the better games I've played. It was just an FPS with a little twist. It had as much RPG as I want in a game(superficial), and nice level design. I also liked Fable TLC. Minimal RPG elements, and not too wide roaming environments.

I thought Dark Messiah was rather well done and a bit disappointed the developers were punished for it.

MechCommander.

For those that never played, it was a tactical RTS. Before each mission, you'd kit out your mechs with weapons and gear then select up to the missions tonnage limit. Pilots gained XP over the course of the campaign. You'd get credits for each mission to buy new mechs and weapons and sometimes you could salvage enemy mechs.

I never played the sequel which boasted a full 3D engine. I heard it wasn't quite as good.

This is now abandonware and free to play.

thank you for that, i just got in on titan quest gold to see what everyone is raving about. gotta be worth the $10 at the very least.

btw, what's with the low metacritic score on this game? only got a 77, but the expansion pack got 80.

It's a solid game but there were some issues with the original. Most of them were addressed in the expansion pack. I never played it before the expansion pack but the important things, IIRC, are the Dream skill tree, extra Act and the big one is transferring items to other characters via your shared backpack.

the improvements brought on by the expansion were also applied to the original right? i am going to play the original first.

Yes.

I asked that same question when I downloaded it off of steam last year.

You get the option of playing either way when you start a game.

I loved this game

I must have the discs around somewhere but I don't think it'll work properly in Vista 64 and my monitor

Titan Quest

Not underrated. Most people like the game.
Perhaps, but on this forum the haters scream louder than the lovers.

I loved it, but thats because I dont have blind nostalgia for Diablo 2. I liked both games but when it was time to move into something new, I did.

Incidentally I dont believe the move to 3D automatically makes a game better. I actually preferred Dungeon Keeper 1 to 2. And I find Neverwinter Nights to be vastly inferior to Baldurs Gate.

But sometimes it works, like moving from Diablo to Titan Quest. Lord knows that game had very few geniune innovations, but it was an almost perfect culmination of everything we know about hack'n'slash gaming.

I would recommend just loading up the expansion version. The Act they added is at the end so you play it as if you were playing the original with extra bit a the end. I wouldn't recommend just playing the original as you wouldn't have access to things like artifacts and you wouldn't be able to save good weapons for your other characters (if you decide to play through it with another build like a barbarian).

Hells yeah, one of the few games that was completely improved by an expansion and made more playable. Adding artifacts was good. Adding storage was great. Allowing the storage to transfer between characters was brilliant, and something I missed very much in similar games.
