Long term value should be good, this phone will make the 5.0 cut. Other than Exynos 5, there is no SoC om the horizon that will beat it and S4Pro is about to be solidified as platform of choice since it's driving the next Nexus. 1080p isn't a must have but the display is very nice. Kinda tempted because Exynos 5 faces a uphill battle even if it delivers what it promises. Looks like I'm not the only one around here that's not excited about the LG Nexus, it's thread isn't even on the first page. Barely considering at the moment, battery life and performance are pending but would jump on in a heartbeat for a Nexus version.

Indeed.

Anyways, let's look at some Samsung phone models sold between Q2 2010 to Q2 2012. I chose these because these are the ones where we have numbers publicly available for that time period:

Captivate: 4.0" - 1.39 million
Continuum: 3.4" - 0.32 million
Droid Charge: 4.3" - 0.81 million
Epic 4G: 4.0" - 1.90 million
Exhibit 4G: 3.5" - 0.30 million
Fascinate: 4.0" - 1.43 million
Galaxy Prevail: 3.2" - 2.26 million
Galaxy S and Vibrant: 4.0" - 2.47 million
Galaxy S Showcase and Mesmerize: 4.0" - 1.21 million
Galaxy S II: 4.65" - 4.14 million
Gem: 3.2" - 0.37 million
Indulge: 3.5" - 0.27 million
Infuse: 4.5" - 1.05 million
Intercept: 3.2" - 1.29 million
Nexus S 4G: 4.0" - 0.51 million
Replenish: 2.8" - 0.94 million
Transform: 3.5" - 0.60 million

So...
4.3" and smaller: 16.1 million
4.5" and larger: 5.2 million

This doesn't include 5"+ phones, or the Galaxy S III (which came out after that time frame). The Galaxy S III has sold well, but it is not 5"+ either. The Note has sold distinctly less well than the Galaxy S III.

I don't see you including the Galaxy S I9000 and the Galaxy S2 I9100 or do you? I thought they sold 10 million S1s and well over 10 million S2s? Or was that including the idiotic US models? I see your list as US-centered. Anyone who even wanted to see Galaxy S sales would've pulled up the main international model as that captures 80% of their sales I bet.

I don't see how anyone here has enough data to say omg that battery is insufficient.

Is it not an HTC phone? They spent years earning their reputation as being disgustingly bad in terms of battery life, and it is a *very* well deserved reputation.

yet the iPhone runs smoothly, takes amazing pictures, gets great battery life, etc.

Ask anyone who is stuck in the RDF and they will agree with you. Then you make a phone call and find out it is simply stupid bad on battery life, or you actually take pictures with any sort of non ideal light and end up with purple blobs all over the place, or you open up a PDF and watch the iPhone chug in a pathetic fashion. Of course, if you live in the RDF then you don't have to worry about petty things like 'specs' and 'reality'

Seriously HTC, physical buttons on a phone this big? Well it looks like I'm going Razr Maxx HD.

I do hope we see this in the USA (Verizon please) and the previous post on the HTC DLX would hopefully confirm this. I also hope it comes soon so I can compare it to the Note 2. I've been leaning very heavily towards the Note 2, but a true 1080 screen has me drooling.

I will probably opt for the Note 2 given the mature development (2nd gen) and large battery. I also suspect that this first gen 1080 phone will really push the SoC/GPU and therefore really push the battery and if the rumors that the battery will be 2050mAHr or even 2500mAHr are true it will be hard to see how the DLX makes it through the day without charging.

But, I'm already looking down the road to the Note 3 and I have to believe it will have to have a 1080 screen just to stay relevant. Can you imagine the Note 3 with 1080 screen, third gen stylus and smaller bezels...

I have one! (DLX not J Butterfly)

Ask me questions! This thing is a BEAST at benchmarks--over 300+ in Linpack...single threaded (500+ multi-threaded on most runs.)

EDIT: Make that 600+ in Linpack with the latest firmware!

Is it an unlocked gsm world phone like some recent droids have been?

he gets a lot of verizon phones early - must work for them in some capacity - maybe a tester or a focus group or a campus rep, or maybe just a straight up verizon employee.

In that case... is it true they're going with physical buttons for this thing? :|

How does the screen look compared to 720p screens, is the difference even noticeable? How is SLCD3, is the screen as nice as the One X?

I need some confirmation on a few things if you don't mind...

1. Is the battery 2500mAHr as new reports indicate?

2. How does this phone compare to other phones for battery life?

3. Does it have a uSD(XC) card slot that I can put 64GB into?

4. How does the screen look/work while web surfing?

5. How does the screen look when watching 1080 videos?

6. How about a hint as to when big red will have them for sale?

1. Can you actually notice a resolution difference next to a One X?
2. Does Sense still have aggressive anti-multitasking behavior even with 2gb RAM?

Kinda OT but better to ask here than start a thread for it: Which SIM format is the GSM version of this phone most likely to adopt? Recommend me a good SIM size conversion kit? I'm in the market for a new out of contract phone and I want to be ready for SIM card variations.

I'm wondering if anyone knows for a fact that it doesn't have a Wacom digitizer. If it DOES have one, this is for sure my next phone. I'm hoping that this detail just hasn't been released, as I'd love to see S4 pro with some custom Photoshop software.

Here we go again. Nice specs, but in a ridiculously oversized phone.

5 inch screen is not ridiculous, especially if they keep the bezel small.

You want tiny quality? Get a RAZR M. They've been out for a while.

I keep comparing this to the next Nexus. It boils down to better display vs. stock Android and timely updates.
